Hi, Hope it is ok to jump right in. Would you folks mind answering a few questions about the MWL guidelines until I get my book? I have MS and have memory problems, so even though I have looked around here quite awhile I am really lost. Been doing some heavy circling and forget what I have read sometimes until I read it again. I could really use some "keep it simple stupid links" in one place. LOL

1. It says to make green & yellow vegetables 1/2 to 1/3 of your meal and to eat uncooked foods. Is there a ratio of cooked to uncooked to follow? Does it matter which one you eat or fill up on second after you get your starch?

2. If you use the recipes on the clickable list of MWL recipes do you just follow the recommended portion size and if still hungry fill up on something else? More nonstarchy veggies to keep up MWL?

I am trying to cut out drinking tea and thought you might enjoy this one. I nuked some water and grabbed a tea bag and headed back in here to look around some more. I got really engrossed in this wealth of information apparently and finished my "tea" and decided to have another cup. When I reached for my cup there was the dry tea bag sitting there. I drank a cup of hot water with nothing in it and didn't even notice. HA! HA! In my defense I use the tea bag twice and drink it black, but still

I really would appreciate your help and am so glad to have found this place!!

NGU, welcome aboard! Ha ha! Yes, I also have the memory challenges!

In regard to raw or cooked veggies, I think you can consider this only one aspect of the MWL plan and certainly not the most important part. If you like raw veggies, eat as many you like. If you to not, eat lots of cooked veggies. I steam all of mine and am doing quite well. You can see my story here:

In short, if you eat lots of unrefined starches and veggies and not much of anything else, you should do well.

Please keep us posted on your journey! :-D

Thank you very much pinkrose for your reply.

Do I understand you correctly then when I think that I can ignore the number of portions stated in the recipes?

Your story is very inspirational. Thank you for sharing that with me as well!

You are welcome, NGU!

Since I do not use recipes, I was not thinking of them! You asked about the mixture of raw and cooked veggies. Actually raw veggies require a bit more energy to digest and you may find them a bit more satisfying. These are the advantages of eating them. However, some of us (especially in the winter) do not like raw veggies. So if you like them, eat them. If you do not, cook your veggies! Enjoy them!

Unrefined veggies and starches are UNLIMITED! So, you can ignore portions!!! For most people, portion control is not effective in regard to weight management. Eating only foods that are low in caloric density--and eating as much as you desire of them--is very effective!

Keep us posted on your successes!!! :-D

Hi pinkrose, We are just loving the potatoes!!! So missed them and other starches. I am reading and watching the video clips and even cleaned out the freezer. Gave away the last meat products we bought, so I guess we better be in it for the long haul now :D

Thanks for asking
