lots of gas. I eat beans and I my stomach gets very bloated. I love to eat beans, but dont because of this problem. Well my stomach is gassy with or without beans. What can I do to help solve this probem, so I can start this new lifestye of eating? I drink kefir to help, but doesnt seem to be helping. I feel like I need to detox my body,so can that be the problem?

Hi

When I transitioned to this WOE I did have some issues with gas but wthin a few weeks everything settled. My parents found it took them a few months - but they came from an omnivore diet whereas I was a vegetarian.

Here is an article from Mary McDougall that specifically addresses your issue. Starting about halfway down, read:

"SOLUTIONS TO THE EMBARRASSMENTS OF GASSES"

http://www.drmcdougall.com/misc/2005nl/june/050600mary.htm

One thing that I would comment is to stop all dairy (kefir) and substitute a digestive aid like Beano.

Welcome aboard, GP!

This is common, especially for those who are transitioning to this way of eating.

How much are you walking? I have found that walking for 30 minutes or longer after meals helps a lot.

Also, please know that beans are optional and some of here do not eat them. Dr. McDougall recommends no more than one cup/day. Experiment within the guidelines here and I think you will get much more comfortable.

Please keep us posted on your journey! :-D
