ROFL About teh carbs..

A suggestion... get a nice big bowl of yummy carbs (Rice or noodles with lots of veggies and eat it in front of your collegue... let the lovely smell waft his way.

(I know it is mean)
anyway... I wish people understood how bad that adkins diet is for them but .. I gave up trying to explain it.
I just sit and eat my lovely carbs and enjoy my full happy tummy and shrinking waist line.

Hugs to You!

Thanks Kitty! That was the first time (I think) I've run into a fully-on-board low carber. Mostly I run into people who think it's healthier to cut back on carbs. It just makes me sad since I know what they're doing to their bodies. :(

So things are going well with me. I've had a chest infection for a while, and I think *fingers crossed* that it's finally cleared up. I jst have something lingering in my throat which I think is the common cold.

Well I've been 100% on board, but I have been drinking tea w/ sugar and almond milk. I'm going to cut back on that now, and drink green tea if I want something hot. I'm replacing the white sugar with fruit, so I'm starting to include more of that.

As for my hair falling out, turns out it was just some bad scalp problems which are not being resolved by a new shampoo. It also might have been stress. It wasn't much *fingers crossed* that was falling out anyway. If I style my hair with gel, a hair or two might come out is all. Which is just natural. Hair dies and falls out, it happens.

I like green tea, it makes me feel good, and it doesn't *fingers crossed* make me too anxious. I can also drink it plain without adding anything.

Lately I've just been eating good 'ol rice and beans. I'm experimenting with the recipe so the veggies aren't too overcooked, but I'm not too worried. I have my menus planned out now that I only cook 3 times a week, which is very good for me! I've also been making my quinoa "tabbouleh" salad. I put the quotes around tabbouleh since it's not, technigcally speaking, tabbouleh. It's a lot like tabbouleh, lol.

I am making sure that I no longer make myself and the people around me miserable because I want to indulge and, in effect, make myself sick. I know I can aspire to better health. Turns out, I'm sensitive enough to the almond breeze that it does bother me a little. However, I am not beating myself up over anything. That won't solve any problems.

I'm reading a book about foods that heal inflammation, some of the stuff I know is hokum (Oils heal! You need probiotics!) Yeah, right. But I'll be interested to see what it suggests for a diet.

So I'm going to drink some green tea while it's -10C and read my book! Be well everyone!

p.s. TWO bunches of kale in the fridge! One wasn't enough. :D

I just need to stop here every so often so I can get in an atmosphere without carbophobes. I am really this fascinating book about an anti-inflammation diet, but geez she has something against potatoes!

Things are going well still here. Just tweaking my diet here and there to see what suits me best.

My tastebuds are changing. Hard to say whether or not it's for the better.

Today, I came home to find out I was craving....peas. Then I looked at whatever elaborate leftovers I had and I didn't want it.

Instead I had some brown rice with a little salt.

Tomorrow I plan on making something very simple. Perhaps some steamed vegetables and pasta.

HI Loveskale. Like you I find my taste buds slowly but surely changing. NOw the simpler teh food the more I like it and when I do induldge things just don't taste as good as i remember.

Alo do you notice that things that on TV used to look really yummy now just look greasy and too brightly colored.

Now that I see fresh real food every day it is easier to tell the color added greasy stuff from what real food looks like.

Keep up the good work .. as to the potatoes.... well some folks are effected by them that is for sure. but not everyone. Just like wheat/gluten.

Hi Kitty!

Yeah, this girl is not only saying potatoes are inflammation promoting but also is on the "they are fattening" wagon.

Rant Alert!

So today, in a waiting room, I saw a women's magazine with an article on Paleo diet, I only know about it from these boards, so I wanted to read it from another person's perspective.

And you know what it's pretty compelling, I think I'll try it out and eat two racks of spare ribs.

NOT!!!

Geez, I knew it was bad, but this was terrible. Like a low carb nightmare. The person who started it said he stopped being vegetarian and did this and his health issues cleared up...ugh. Did he ever think it was the dairy and a possible gluten intolerance. I have many of the same issues as this person did, and mine CLEARED UP eating a pure vegetarian diet (i.e. McDougalling) and that includes lots of grains and beans. Sigh, some people are just fooling themselves. (Note: I do realise some people are better off grain-free, but it can be done on a vegetarian diet, I think this person just wants an excuse to eat meat!)

End rant!

On to happier things.

Yeah, I am doing a whole lot better now. My stomach issues have cleared up and I am back to eating flavourful foods again. I guess my problem is my stomach wanted FRESH FOOD and not the leftovers I had been eating. So not more cooking only three times a week! Oh well, time to pull out the slow cooker again!

I'm eating quite healthy, and I am quite happy. I hope everyone is well too, and keep eating those carbs and grains, they are good for you (most of you).

I have been wheat gluten'd.

I want to journal here so I can remember what I'm doing right and what I'm doing wrong.

To be honest, I'm a little afraid of my usual drink lots of water to get lessen severity of wheat gluten symptoms. That's probably why when I want 100% natural for those few weeks, I had less symptoms from being in a wheat-gluten covered environment (i.e. people eating wheat gluten products at computers).

I had an apple this morning (organic even!) and it made things worse. At lunchtime, I ate some soup, which I felt full, physically, but my gut was saying I was still hungry. It was the most unnerving feeling ever.

I made mushroom pasta (yum) I am getting really good at browning garlic oil-free, so I'm no longer temped to use "a little oil" to season the pan. We all know, there's no such thing!

I also made salad, which I avoided because of the raw vegetables, but my family appreciates it.

I'll update later. Right now, I'm going to suck it up and drink water and see how it goes.

Things are going well today. My IBS is a lot better, and better resists "fatty" and "processed" (regular plan) foods, i.e. walnuts and pasta (not in the same dish, of course).

I'm on a new medication (nothing too serious, I'm fine!), and I might be having a bad reaction to it. OR I am more sensitive to caffeine. However, I have cut way back. Only time will tell.

Hi Loveskale: I note you think maybe you are more sensitive to caffeine now. Don'y know if this will have any bearing on your stomach issues, but once I was fully on McDougall, all things caffeine had to go. This has never been an issue for me. I used to have 3 cups of coffee (actually mugs of coffee) before breakfast and not a single problem due to that. I used to also drink a cup of Earl Grey tea (my absolute fav and sent to me by a friend who knows I am addicted to it) and I have now had to give that up too.

Seriously ,my stomach and gut just feel completely raw if I touch the stuff. I even tested the waters and waited like 3 weeks from the last bout of this and then tried some EG after a very big breakfast and same thing. So, now I am on herbal coffee only. Mary McDougall's recommendation for Techhino (sp) Coffee lead me to that brand - it's not coffee, but it's pretty pleasant. Anyway, this could be the culprit for you too. Either way, you have my sympathy. :) Michelle

Thanks lmggallagher!

I have been having severe anxiety attacks + the shakes (and it's not because I'm cold!), I'm also getting joint pain, stomach pain, and decreased appetite.

I'll definitely take in your suggestion and cut out caffeine. I just need to find something hot I can drink that doesn't need sugar or almond milk. I am afraid of what they do to make green tea decaf.

Today, I was studying the heart. I read up on antherosclerosis, and it said something to this nature: heart disease causes by excess cholesterol. Excess cholesterol caused by animal products (i.e. meat, dairy, eggs). Can be improved by a low-fat, high fibre diet and exercise.

That made my very happy! :D It doesn't say go vegetarian, but it does explain how to cure it plain and simple (thought it doesn't say cure).

Then it goes on to talk about coronary bypass, heart attacks, etc.

I am really struggling with healthy eating now...and I know there is no excuse for it. I am just not planning and letting stress take over my life, and guess what! The bad foods make me even more stressed out.

I do eat McDougall every meal but it's in between that's bringing me down.

I know what I have to do and I know that I am not doing myself any favours by not doing it.

How does one...

Satisfy a craving for a hot drink without caffeine or sugar?

What kind of snacks can you make, especially when you are having difficulty swallowing (So raw veggies are out!), even some cooked foods cause me problems.

I also need to get into an exercise routine again. I should read MWL and start planning. I think that is key, I hope?

Honestly, just something going on in my life is upsetting me. So, instead of dealing with it I decided to nitpick other things.

I know the caffeine + sugar isn't good but not going to stress about it, I do need to talk to people and get things done!

B: Hashbrowns
L: Vegetable stew
D: Pasta w/ avocado and salsa...SO GOOD
D: WATER

I did good today! :)

Happy weekend!

Oh loveskale - the correct spelling for the herbal coffee is Teeccino and it comes in a ton of flavors. It's Mary McDougall's favorite :)

Sweet flavors too like chocolate raspberry and so on. Here's the website browse a bit and I think you will find something that fits for your taste buds. I think I'll come back and order off this site, most of my stores have the French Roast and Hazel Nut, but I had no idea that there are so many others.

Good luck - Michelle

Thank you Michelle, you may have mentioned this, but what is it made out of again?

Turns out I have a touch of the stomach flu. So, I have been taking it easy.

B: Rice cereal
L: Pasta w/ peas and salsa
D: Black bean soup

I'll post a recipe and a picture, if I remember.

I am still having a few lingering health problems, which I know to be the result of my current diet not being good enough. I think the few non-whole foods that I'm eating are causing problems. I am going to do my best to finally eliminate sugar and caffeine (Sigh, even green tea!), and non-dairy milks, and see how it goes. I'll allow a little honey as my throat is killing me and it seems to help.

I have a few sweet potatoes that I'll bake, I'll also bake some yukon gold's for a healthy snack, plus some mary's crackers. As for something to drink, herbal tea all the way. Also water, if it doesn't hurt my throat.

I'm also going to make a point to meditate every day for anxiety, as I've been going through a major panic episode as well. I even got to the point where I had to start taking medications again. :(
