At Berkeley, CA store yesterday (stocking my no-salt, no-sugar condiments), and at prepared foods bar and checkout had McDougall books and DVDs. Picked up Health Starts Here flyer with "5 Easy Recipes to Try", and surprised they actually cooked with broth or water, no oil. Actually going to try the lentil loaf and sweet potato risotto.

When I asked on Facebook about seeing oil or dairy in some HSH things in case I was told HSH is based on several plans and not just plant based oil free. This wasn't too long ago-la Jolla store in ca. Was sad

I just love the fact that I can go into a WF that has a salad bar and remain compliant. I am bummed though that the No oil balsamic vinaigrette isn't sold individually to the public, where I live. I have gone into the 4 stores in my area and non sell it. I wonder if I can order it through other stores and have it sent to me. The BIG bottle. :unibrow:

I have seen the selection change quite regularly at the WF stores I frequent. I suspect that sales and customer feedback drive this. Go and talk to their customer service folks and see what happens, there might be others like you.

Here in California's Central Valley, I have to drive 2 hours just to get to a Whole Foods Market. We certainly have the population base to support one, but perhaps not the right demographics.

In PF Chang's the white sauce has chicken stock in it. I asked for water to be substituted and was told at 2 different restaurants it is a starter sauce and already has it in. So now I get just steamed Buddah's feast veggies with brown rice and add a little hot mustard, garlic, and my own Bragg's to it and am in heaven!

I went to the Whole Foods on Westlake and Denny today for the first time. Their selection of HSH is very similar to the store on 64th and Roosevelt. Both stores have excellent choices.

When I got home and opened the kale, garlic, tahini salad I was a little disappointed. They failed to trim off the quarter inch diameter stems from the leaves. Somebody needs some kale prep lessons :)

My closest Whole Foods is finally stocking some great HSH wraps and quesadillas (no cheeses, just beans) They are 7.99$ each and not a lot of food, but still I've gotten about four of them in the last month when I've been hungry and not feeling like making anything. The Med Cous Cous wrap is pretty darn great and comes with oil free fat free hummus spread!

The downtown store had several wraps and also an oil free kale hummus that is really good.

I was at a location in the Los Angeles area yesterday. The HSH section had eight cold and eight hot selections, $7.99/lb. There was also a sign advertising HSH cooking classes on Thursdays. I'd go just for fun, but that's the day we have tickets for Craig Ferguson.

This is very good news.

I rarely go into Whole Foods Market, but will start going again.

2 questions though:

Are the healthy food that are labeled all over the store so you have to hunt and peck, or just in a certain area?

Also, I've never had the Mcdougall soups. Are they dried soups in cups, and are they made with whole grains or white pasta/rice? Thank you for answering my seemingly dumb questions, but I'm new to this - haven't eaten low fat since the 80's.

The HSH products are throughout the store, but most of them seem to be in the produce section and in the pre-made, deli, salad bar section.

McDougall soups have all healthy ingredients. The only concern for some people might be the sodium content. It's lower than comparable soups but it's not low. There is a low salt version of some McDougall soups, but the portion size is smaller. They offer a soup with low sodium but it's also 1oz instead of 2oz for example. I need more than 100 calories in a serving so I would just eat two of the low sodium soups which isn't much different than eating a whole regular size.

I remember reading somewhere that Dr McDougall does not own the company anymore that makes the soups.

Definitely do this if you're interested in the HSH foods. A couple of weeks ago, I asked at the produce dept of one of the local Whole Foods about the HSH salad dressings. They had no idea what I was talking about, but said the buyer was in the back and would special order whatever kind I wanted (if it really was a WF brand like I claimed ;) ). I turned them down because I didn't know what kinds were offered and neither did the buyer. However, the next week, they had introduced several WF brand dressings including 4 of the HSH ones.

Thank you Healthfreak. I'm not so much concerned with sodium, but I've made a pledge to myself to avoid white flour products as much as possible.

I can't wait to look for those soups! Thanks again for your reply.
