Whoever it was that suggested microwaving popcorn in a brown paper bag, a huge thank you! I tried it last night, and while I was sceptical, it worked perfectly! I tried it with some braggs and nooch, but I didn't care too much for the braggs on the popcorn. Next time I will try a little salt water in a spray bottle and try that.

Again, thanks for the idea!

Oh this sounds terrific. I am going to go search for it in the recipe area - not sure how long to nuke it, how much to use, etc.

I put about 1/3 cup popcorn kernels in the bag and it took about 3 minutes to pop them.

Just remember to make sure you don't use recycled bags in the microwave. I read they can cause damage to the microwave because they often contain small particles of metal.

Gonna try this today. Silly question time. How do you close the bag? Do you fold the opening over several times?

Nooch is nutritional yeast.

The time it takes to pop varies a lot with individual oven as power levels vary a lot. Just listen and when the popping slows, before it stops, take it out, its done. If you try to wait until popping stops you will get a lot of burnt kernels. There will always be some that don't pop, no worries. Just take note of time for your oven, and if there were burned bits, try a few seconds less. Pretty soon you will have an "ear" for the popping rate at which to pull the plug.

yes, thank you! I just made some. In the past whenever I ate popcorn I would just gorge on it until I got sick. Of course it was the oil and salt that did it. My memories of plain popcorn with no salt and oil was not good, but I really enjoyed it and didn't overeat.

If you don't use much, a wee wee misting with water will make flavor adds stick to it, nutritional yeast and cayenne are mighty fine together. Too much water and the kernels collapse and get soggy.

How to seal the bag? I fold over (tight, small folds) a couple of times and seal with scotch tape.

Cheers

No need for tape, just fold. The tape might well melt or even burn. No tape. Couple folds does the trick nicely.

I love this. I'm moving soon and trying to pare down drastically, so now I can let my big plastic microwave popping bowl go, and just use brown paper bags from now on. Saves space!!! :-D

We tried this last night and it worked great! Thanks for the idea! Is it ok to re-use the paper bags (for popping corn)?

Just got some popping corn this morning at Tescos and this afternoon I made popcorn! I put a third of a cup in a paper bag (an empty oatmeal bag) and put in the microwave for 2 minutes (750 watts) and it made absolutely perfect popcorn, it filled the whole of the 1kg bag.

Thanks for the tip.

Sue
