So, I decided when I went full speed ahead on this program that I needed to get baseline numbers for my bloodwork. So 3 months ago I stopped my Lipitor and all of my supplements.

Without Lipitor, my cholesterol is considered normal for someone without heart disease. My ldl comes in at 99, my hdl around 49 and I forgot what my tris are, but they are low. But because I have heart disease, my cardiologist wants me to keep my ldl at 70 or below. If my number is below 99, I will continue on this path and not add the Lipitor back in. If it hasn't moved, I will continue eating this way and just add the med back in.

As far as the supplements, I felt that since my gastric bypass 5 years ago, I just blindly supplemented because I was told to. I thought long and hard about this and thought that maybe they suggest all of that supplementation because of the high protein, non nutrient rich diet they suggest for weight loss surgery patients. I want to see where my numbers really are and if I need to supplement, I will.

I am really optimistic that I will not be back on meds for cholesterol. I really want to go back to my drs. and tell them how I did it and that I don't need the medication.

I only mention my weight loss surgery so you know why I was taking supplements. Not to start anything about the surgery.

It's always a good feeling to decrease or stop the medication if possible. I knew the day the statin was prescribed there had to be another way around high cholesterol. Thankfully I found this way of eating and I disposed of my statin medication.

I thought we were to look at the overall TC and not the break down of HDL vs LDL. I do know I catch myself doing this regularly, when Dr. McDougall stresses what the TC reads. The numbers look good, hopefully a few month and your meds will be a thing of the past. 8)

I guess I've been so programmed to look at the individual cholesterol numbers. Right after my heart attack, I was immediately put on a bunch of meds. I was so scared, I didn't question it. It just did what I was told I had to do to prevent another MI.

I've gotten off all of the meds and the cholesterol one is last. Hopefully it will be out of my life for good!
