I've been a vegan on and off for 20 years, and to this day I still don't like mushrooms. A lot of vegan and vegetarians use them in recipes because of their "meaty" texture, but I swear unless they're ground up pretty finely, I can't stand the texture. Am I the only mushroom hater in the world?...lol.

No! I always groan when I'm offered Portabella in restaurants. Seriously, is that rubbery shroom the only thing they can figure to "replace meat" with?

I do like the smaller ones, chopped and mixed with other veggies.

Definitely! Really there's lots of others. I had a mushroom mishap many years ago and after that I would gag on the taste or even the smell for a long time. Now I am back to loving them. I think you can still be allowed to be a vegan though even if you never eat them. But they are pretty darn good for you and provide a lot of cancer protection.

Have you tried dried shitake mushrooms? I get the small ones and chuck a handful into stews and such. They have a nice chewy texture that I really like.

That's what turns me off veggylvr. They bounce when you bite into them....lol.

Well, I like the idea of cancer protection, so maybe I'll just chop them up fine and add them to things, then close my eyes.

Yes, I tried shitake mushrooms years ago, and didn't like them either. Maybe it's the thought of them being a fungus that I don't like....lol.

I was 21 before I'd even try eating a mushroom, then I discovered I liked them on occasion. They're still not on the top of my shopping list, but I'll eat them and not pick them out of the food like I used to.

Well, not everyone likes everything, for sure. I used to love okra, but only if it was rolled in cornmeal and fried crisp. Now that I don't fry stuff anymore, I don't care for okra...except pickled. I love mushrooms; my favorites are wild ones that I gather when I get the chance.

You were a lot younger than I was when you tried them. I didn't try them until I was about 48 years old. P.S. I still pick them out of my food....lol.

I grew up in Indiana, and we used to go "mushroom hunting" to pick the morels, but when I got them home I never did eat them. Hunting for them was just an excuse to go hiking in the woods.

So I'm guessing you don't want me to share the mushroom stroganoff recipe I plan on making tonight?

My son isn't a lover of the 'shroom. He doesn't hate them but he could live without them.

Haha....bring it on. I'll suffer through it.

Sorry to spoil the party, but I absolutely LOVE mushrooms! I like to sautee them in just a bit of vegan worcesterchire sauce.

The veggie that ruins the food for me is cucumbers. Yuck! They are in so many salad recipes and I cannot stand them (or any type of melon either).

Thank goodness there is so much variety in the vegetable kingdom!

I think you're in the majority, LoriLynn. I'm the weirdo. I don't mind cucumbers, so I guess we're even...lol.
