I appreciate everyone's reply.
Through many tears I told my daughter who is 27, that my body can't tolerate the MRC diet. She really didn't say anything but I know she understands.
I had a very difficult time eating yesterday..I certainly didn't want any of the "forbidden" foods so I am giving my body time to readjust.
I have been a believer in McDougalling for 15 + years. I know the right thing to do, I have all his DVD, books, cookbooks and I have read the China Study 2 times.
I think it is time to put all this "belief" to work.. I am open for suggestions on how to start..
Again, thanks everybody for the encouragement and understanding..
I feel your pain. I first read about the McDougall plan 12 years ago, right in the middle of the Atkin's Diet revival. So I ignored McDougall in favor of high protein/low carb diets. I tried Atkins at least 3 times, despite the fact it made me sick. But the advertising was so slick and it was everywhere. I even got a catalog of Atkins diet food. Wow--in addition to the shakes and bars, it had donuts and cake mixes and pudding and frozen dinners. Then Akins died and all that stopped. His company was sold and went back to just making the bars and shakes. I went on to the Paleo Diet and it urged people to eat wild game, bison and even ostrich meat. Like I can buy that in my local supermarket. Besides like I said in my other post it all gummed up my insides like crazy. Finally I knew what I had to do. I got on this message board 6 yrs. ago and made a half-hearted attempt at McDougalling, but because of family pressures and other things, didn't really commit to it until last year. Still it has taken me almost another year to really get the hang of it and fully embrace it, but I am hanging in there still trying my best. Some people can just "do it" but others of us feel like we need to pacify our family members or we are just stuck in our ways and find it hard to change. Both of those apply to me. But honestly, we can't change others--we can only change ourselves. I've given up on trying to get other family members to go along with me. It's a road I must walk alone, but it's a road that leads to better health. Just re-read the book and re-watch the videos you have and tell yourself that no one else is going to do this for you. You CAN do it! Many of us who have tried and failed in the past but still returned to this way of eating are proof that it is possible. I encourage you to start again and don't give up!
