Thanks so much for stopping by! All company has left now, and I stopped by the grocery store this afternoon. As of dinner tonight, I'm back to normal. Thanks kristykay and Quinoamania for your posts - I love your comments! I did find that even with extra salt and some oil, I didn't get into full craving or overeating mode. I'm really happy that I stayed the same! I'm down 14 pounds in 12 weeks, even with my usual travel schedule and company! I'm going to catch up on some other journals this weekend and see how all of you are doing! Take care, LauraA

2012
Jan 6- down 5 pounds
Jan 13-down 3 pounds
Jan 20- down 2 pounds
Jan 27-out of town
Feb 3-out of town
Feb 10-out of town
Feb 17th- stayed the same
Feb 24th - down 1 pound
March 2 - down 1 pound
March 9 - stayed the same
March 16 - down 2 pounds
March 23-stayed the same (lots of house guests and eating out)

Hi giddyupgin, and thanks for visiting and for being interested. I learned of this way of eating years ago, and have been totally vegan since then except for a few months where I got the idea that I should add fish and seafood (something that I read about, I guess). Anyway, I don't struggle at all with being vegan, but I do struggles with compulsive eating once I have even a bite of a food that gives me problems. If I have nuts, for example, it's the whole bag or can. If I have bread, it is all of the loaf that is left. My other issue is that I have tons of company, travel often, and am often in restaurants where the food has more oil and salt. On top of that, I work for a month each year in an orphanage in Tanzania where there is no choice of food at all. Luckily, they serve very little meat there. Until this year, I mistakenly thought that I could have nuts in moderation - maybe on a salad in a restaurant, or a little bread from a bread basket. This didn't work out, because it lead to me having cravings later, and stopping somewhere to buy more! The good news is that my health is wonderful. My only issue is wanting to lose more weight. I plan to lose all that I need to lose this year!!
It looks like you are doing great - and I'm so glad that you like the program. Take care, LauraA

Totally understand. I was eating a lot of almonds before I found out they were high in omegas 6 and inflammatory I love losing the weight and whenever i think about going off I see the red flags go off for my health. The you tube video foods that kill comes to mind. The idea that eating a fat meal slows your blood for four hours seems too much for me now. I'm sticking to this. WOE. Is me

Hi Laura! Good to see you still at it. Looks like you are making progress not only in losing weight but in recognizing what it takes to get there-- leaving out certain foods, etc. You enjoy your week.

Hi Anna, giddyupgin and all. I love having visitors to my journal! Well, it may "look like" I know what I'm doing, but eating compulsions are strong sometimes, as is the "diet" mentality. I was happy to weigh the same after over a week of company and lots of restaurants. I feel though, like I should never have gotten on the scale on Friday. The result was that I spent my weekend (no company) continuing to eat like I had eaten with company -more processed food, veggie burgers, more bread, more oil, even" to go" from a restaurant! The only reason for this was that I hadn't gained last week and the diet mentality of "I'll get strict again on Monday"! Well, Monday is here, and I'm back to reality, and also back to wondering why I even get on the scale. I know it is meant to be a tool, but it doesn't always work that way for me. Next Friday I'll be out of town (I'm visiting one of my daughters from Thursday - Sunday), and I'm not going to weigh in at all this week. This should give me plenty of time away from the scale! I hope that all of you are doing well. Take care, LauraA

ha! "I'll get strict again on Monday" does that every sound familiar!

keep on going!

I got a coworker bossing me around. He says it's an intervention, and he's right. I have work to do.

blessings!

Hey Laura. I was thinking about you while you had a house full of family there. Sounds like you did pretty well!

I like your summary week by week of your weight loss because it gives a clear visual of your progress. Losing 14 pounds in 12 weeks is excellent!

I hope this coming week you get back where you want to be with food and have a lovely visit with your daughter.

Hi all, and thanks Buns and Birdy for your visit. Buns, the thought, "I'll start again on Monday" scared me, but I am doing well. It is good that I'll be away from the scale this Friday, I think. Some of you know that we have a huge family. We had two children, then adopted 6 of our foster children. Many of those have disabilities, so it is always interesting. The daughter that I'm visiting is 35, and is retarded. She lives in a group home. I'll be in a motel with a kitchen, so eating won't be a problem. I'll probably eat out a couple of times with her, but I can have big salads and a baked potato. It is going to be close to 90 degrees here in southern GA today, but I'm going up to CT, so it will be much cooler. My eating is going well. I did go a little crazy after all of the company left. Not so much crazy with what I ate, but sort of crazy in my thoughts. That "I'll wait till Monday" thought was quite a shock, and not the way that I want to live! I'm losing all of the weight that I need to lose this year, and there are no other options! Take care, LauraA

yeah, "I'll get serious on Monday" should NOT be a statement coming out of our mouths, EVER.

big salads and baked potatoes sound really good, actually. Like, a Sizzler salad bar w/a naked baked potato on the bottom...yum...good stuff, maynard!

have fun visiting your daughter. My job is working with disabled adults, and i LOVE it!

Well, I've been missing in action a bit too long. I'm thrilled that I have so much family to visit and to visit me, but obviously I need to put in more effort here. The good news is that I'm not compulsively eating, and I'm not eating junk. I'd say I'm doing more regular program lately than MWL. I actually thought that I would lose a little this week. Anyway, I'm here, and I'm going to lose all of the weight that I need to lose in 2012. I'm still keeping my "eyes on the prize"!! Take care, LauraA

Hi all - ok, I am losing slowly, but I have lost 15 pounds in the 15 weeks since I started keeping track and renewing my efforts. I know all too well why I'm not losing faster, and I'm just not willing to travel less to see grandkids, or to change the amount that we eat out and others cook while lots of family are here. What I have changed this year, though, is that whenever I'm home, without a bunch of company, I stick strictly to my plan. In the past, I would stay "off plan" for a good while once I got off. I also have totally eliminated some trigger foods for me - mostly nuts and bread. I'm planning to continue with just what I'm doing, and I plan to have lost all that I need to lose by the end of 2012! Take care, LauraA

Hi Laura,
Congrats on losing 15 pounds. That's a lot. And at the rate you're going I'm sure you'll reach your goal for 2012!

Getting right back on plan after diversions is a good skill. Sometimes I think about how every bite is an opportunity to eat well. It doesn't matter if the last bite wasn't the best; the next meal or snack can be.

Enjoy the beautiful weekend!

Hi Laura, I just got caught up on your journal. Congratulations on the weight release and on letting go of your trigger foods! I had trouble with nuts and matzo during Passover, so I think you and I have the same triggers. It's very hard to get past the denial and the idea that I can have just a few, even after my 8 months of progress in OA. You are inspiring me.
