I'm taking a page out of Katydid's book and starting to walk more. I just got my new pedometer today, and I'm going to try to get 10,000 steps in everyday. I find I sit a lot during the day, and after reading Lani's blog viewtopic.php?f=33&t=28184 about the dangers of being sedentary and the fact that a daily workout doesn't make up for it, I've decided I want to change. It helps that today is a BEAUTIFUL day (nearly 80 degrees, unheard of in March in Chicago!), and I got to go for a long walk with my good friend! I'm at almost 9,000 steps so far and I have to go return something at the mall tonight, so I'll walk around while I'm there to reach my goal. This will be fun!

I don't have a lot of time to post today, but wanted to just come here and say "hi" and report my weight loss for this week. I've lost 4.8 pounds this week! I'm officially over my 90 pound mark and looking forward to hitting my 100 pound milestone by Easter!

1/06/12: 189.0
1/13/12: 186.6
1/20/12: 183.4
1/27/12: 181.4
2/03/12: 183.0
2/10/12: 180.8
2/17/12: 177.4
2/24/12: 172.0
3/02/12: 169.8
3/09/12: 168.8
3/16/12: 164.0

I can't believe when I look at my ticker and realize I have less than 30 pounds left to lose! This may just actually happen!!!

I am enjoying my new pedometer...I find myself finding excuses to move more...and I am on the computer much less. Which is a good thing, because I think I was wasting a lot of time unnecessarily and sitting way too much. I've been exceeding my goal of walking at least 10,000 steps every day. Most days I'm over 11,000! Of course it helps that the weather has been GORGEOUS!!!! So I have been taking a daily hour long walk outside in the beautiful sunshine! I have been doing pilates at the gym, but I can't stand to be inside on a treadmill or in a spin class right now. I'm thinking about going for a long bike ride today when my dh gets home...we'll see if it works out.

My good friend has a piece of her art work in an art show in Chicago, and my dh, ds, dd, and I are all going! I need something to wear! Everything I tried on was too big-and not nearly hip enough for an art show opening in the city. I think I'll go shopping this afternoon and see if I can find anything to wear that doesn't make me look like a suburban housewife who doesn't get out much! It will be interesting to see if I can buy 10s...my size 12 pants were big on me, so we'll see. I don't want to spend too much, though, cause I'm not hanging around here! I'm on my way DOWN!!

Hope everyone has a Happy McDougally Weekend, and Happy St. Patrick's Day!!! Image

Hey Kirsty,

I had to stop by and say YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are so amazing and inspirational. It's contagious. I over-slept this morning and have a headache and am retaining water and have breast tenderness (blah blah blah). So, I thought it would be a good idea to stop by the Co-op and pick up a vegan scone rather than eat my usual oat bran. I read your post first and decided NOT to get the scone. Thank you!

And your blood sugar levels?? Oh m GEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! I remember when I first started reading your journal and you were coming off meds. Every day I would log on to see what was going to happen to your levels. It was like my favorite TV show. It was a long and frustrating path with many ups and downs but you stuck with it and now look!!!!!! That is the best testament for this program I can think of. It's also a major major lesson for me on patience and perseverance.

You are my hero, Kirsty!!!! Hip hip, hooray!!! Hip hip, hooray!!!! Have fun in Chicago and enjoy shopping for a new fabulous outfit.

I'm right behind you!

THANK YOU, Kelly!!! Your encouragement means so much to me!
Woo-Hoo to you for choosing NOT to get the scone!!!!! That's a major victory and step in the right direction to getting back on track!! You're so close, you will do it!!!! I really believe in you!!!

Boots! It's great to hear from you! I miss you around here. :) Thanks! It feels good to be getting to where I've been wanting to go for so long.

I went to Nordstrom Rack and found this darling little black and white casual dress and also bought a jean jacket to wear over it. I have the perfect necklace that looks great with it and then I went to payless and bought some little shoe boots with a nice heel. With tights, it looks great. Maybe I'll have my dh take a picture and post it later. It was fun to shop. I did try on a pair of black jeans that I really liked and they were a size 10!!!! They were a bit tight, but they looked pretty good, and will look even better in a few weeks! I may take them back, though because they are REALLY long (I'm short :() But I was so amazed to actually fit into a 10 that I wasn't really paying attention to the 6 or so inches that were dragging on the floor!!! I thought maybe with heel they'd look okay, but even with the shoe boots I bought, they were way too long!!! Oh well...there are 10s in my future!

Funny isn't it...90 pounds gone, and there is still that hint of disbelief.

You're so right, Dissolution! I guess 20 years of wishing I'd lose weight and trying so hard and FAILING so miserably has done a number on me. It may take some time for my mind to catch up to my body...

Thanks Vola and Fuelen! Unfortunately, we were running late for the art show and didn't have time for pictures. But I think I'm going to wear the same outfit this Sunday for a friends birthday party, so we'll see if I get a picture then...Anyway, we had a WONDERFUL time at the art opening, and our friend was very happy that we were there! It was really fun, and I felt terriffic in my new outfit!

The weather has been absolutely AMAZING here!!! Feels like summer, and I just can't get enough of it. I think they're saying that it's going to go back to normal pretty soon, so I'm trying to be outside as much as possible and drink it in! I have been moving a lot more frequently, and I LOVE my new pedometer. It just makes me think about walking more! Like yesterday, I would have normally driven to go vote, but instead, I decided to walk there...little things, but they add up into a lot over the course of a day. I think there has only been one day where I haven't gotten my 10,000 steps in...and lately it's been more because I've been outside so much. Yesterday I decided to see if I could do a 5 mile walk. I'm pretty comfortable walking 3 miles, so I thought it would be fun to try it. I did it!! It's 0.7 miles around a local lake here at the forest preserve, and I walked around it 7 times (plus a tiny bit more to make it an even 5 miles). I could have kept going. I just have so much energy!

Maybe someday I'll take up running, but for now, I'm really enjoying walking. My next step is to increase my speed. I walk at about a 3.5 miles/hr pace. I think I could get it to 4 if I work on it.

Eating has been great! I'm focusing on my green leafy vegetables and still making a lot of soups. This week I made a split pea, minestrone(with brown rice instead of pasta), and another "refrigerator" soup that I jazzed up with some fire roasted tomatoes and nutritional yeast...my family LOVED it! I wish I had written down exactly what was in it. I can never make it taste the same twice. Oh, well, keeps things interesting.

I think we're finding that my dh has a sensitvity to gluten. I have never worried too much about it and he has always eaten wheat. But, lately he's been feeling really bloated and gross after eating bread or whole wheat pasta, so we're trying an experiment to stay away from it and see if that's what it is. It won't be too hard, since I'm doing MWL...I just usually supplement my dh and ds with bread and pasta for the extra calories because they are both very trim. My ds actually could stand to gain some weight...my dh has naturally settled at his high school weight since we've been McDougalling. Anyway, we're going to try this gluten-free thing for a while and see how it goes.

I can tell I'm losing more weight this week, but I'm waiting until Friday for my official weigh in. I'm happy to say that the scale has lost it's grip on me, and glad that it didn't take to long to break that old cycle again! My girlfriend gave me a bunch of her size 10s, and guess what???? They all fit!!!!!!! I feel like I just went shopping! I have 5 new pairs of capris and 2 great pairs of jeans and a nice pair of black pants that I can wear now!!!! ALL SIZE 10!!!! :D AMAZING!!! I need a few new tops and I'll be all set for Spring! ....Size 8, watch out...I'm coming to get you!!!!! :unibrow:

I guess I'll stop rambling now...I just thought I should check in 'cause it's been awhile. Hope everyone is doing really well!

You sound so wonderful. I'm glad your art show outing was a success. I totally know what you mean about having a blast when you feel great about how you look. Awesome score on the size 10 hand-me-downs. It can get really expensive to buy sizes you won't be in for long.

I feel good today. I'm staying away from weigh-ins for a bit until I can get a string of good days together without expecting a big loss. This is the way I want to live my life. I have to learn to eat right because eating right is the right thing to do. I need to break the connection between eating right and weight loss because I get so defeated if I don't lose the way I expected. Then I seek out foods that harm my body and spirit and that just makes everything worse.

You are such an inspiration to me!

Way to go Tornadoalley!!! I checked a couple of his DVDs out of the library to try...you're right, Kelly! ...KILLA!!

Kelly,
Good idea about separating the scale and the pressure of weightloss from this whole thing. I think you're absolutely right about sabatoging ourselves when we get discouraged. Making behavioral goals instead of weight loss goals is much more in your control. Just make sure to really reward yourself when you accomplish them...really! Every small victory is a big step closer to living the life you deserve! So, find strength in the little triumphs! Each time you make the right choice, take time to stop and compliment yourself for doing the right thing. Each day you get through without breaking a promise to yourself, do something special for yourself. And pretty soon, you'll string together those victorious days, and not long after that, you'll be right back where you want to be. Believe me, KK, I understand that cycle of setting myself up and then getting discouraged and then thinking..."what's the use, nothing I do matters!" Well, it's a lie, so don't believe it! You have seen success at this, and you will find your stride again!! You are strong! You WILL do this! You inspire me, too!

Looks like today is the last 80 degree day for a while! It's been such a treat! I'm sitting out on my deck right now, listening to the birds chirping...they love this weather too! What a beautiful morning! Maybe I'll work out in the yard today...there sure is a lot that could use my attention.

Hope everyone has a wonderful McDougally Day!!!!!!! :)

Once again, Kelly and Kirsty have the right idea. I keep putting myself in the diet zone, super quick weightloss frame of mind. Go strong for four or five days, then burn out. I have not been approaching this correctly for long term sustainability (even though I said I was). I want results, and I want them now. Behavioral goals. I like that way of thinking.

Great job on the tiny clothes!
