Good reasons for not eating meat but what about the vegetables and fruits that are imported or even handled here by workers who might be infected? Very scary. I hope eating a very healthful diet will at least perk up the immune system to render us at least a bit more resistant to these pathogens. I do not think it will be soon before antibiotics are prohibited in animal feed because agribusiness is not going to allow cattle and other animals to wander freely in less crowded conditions nor will they give up their dependence on corn as feed without a huge expensive fight. The hell with the consumer.

Norway’s solution: Stop taking so many antibiotics...

Norway responded swiftly to initial MRSA outbreaks in the 1980s by cutting antibiotic use. Thus, while they got ahead of the infection, the rest of the world fell behind.

In Norway, MRSA has accounted for less than 1 percent of staph infections for years. That compares with 80 percent in Japan, the world leader in MRSA; 44 percent in Israel; and 38 percent in Greece.
