While I would not promote it, I have to admit that now I want nothing more in the world than to taste a pork donut. What will they think of next?

Sorry you still have such perverse cravings, Didi! I think that many of us here no longer feel attracted to such things!

Did one of the imitation flavor companies (like Givaudan, Switzerland) just start selling a new line of imitation pork flavorings? Lately there has been a whole raft of pork-flavored things.

From thread a while ago about CBS 60 Minutes report “The Flavorists: Tweaking Tastes and Creating Cravings"

Not completely sure what, "Promote," means, but I like to think I wouldn't try to profit off of other people's suffering.

Re: the pork comments; Has everybody seen that commercial where the kid tells his mother he's getting married to bacon? On the surface it just seems stupid and silly, but after thinking about it, it offends me. And, of course, I'm sick of its nauseating attempt to be cute.

Sure, if the bottom line is making money, I will promote something I know isn't good for me. I know what is and isn't good for me and eat as such. So I leave it up to others to promote their own health. Too bad many don't eat good.

My answer is yes, and hear me out. Yes, being the answer to promoting a "rich" food. If, for example, Lebron James enjoys said treat and he can get paid to promote a treat he himself enjoys, its perfectly fine.

I mean, its no different than you telling someone of a wonderful vegan restaurant down the street. Well, if the restaurant asked you to represent them (as they did with Lebron James) and you will get paid, I'm sure plenty of people would do the same.

Say there is a candy you enjoy. Reese's Peanut Butter Cups candy, for example, and the company asks you to do what Lebron James is doing for Dunkin Donuts. Sure, I like the candy and I would recommend it to others so they can enjoy it too. Oh and guess what, I'm getting paid to promote something that I enjoy. Before, you werent getting paid for moaning and groaning about how good the candy is. Now, you get to do it like you did before but now you get paid to do it.

To be a sensationalist, and say, "How will you help China produce..." is fanatical.

Isn't there already a runaway diabetes/obesity problem (especially among the young) in OTHER than rural China?

EDIT: Here's a video from the PBS Newshour (June 2010) on the subject: Waists Expand in China's Growing Middle Class: http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/health/jan-june10/china_06-01.html

I can't help wondering--if there were no fast food restaurants and only the traditional diet was available, would the Chinese who now have more money and more sedentary jobs and the ability to buy cars still get fat? Presumably they could afford to buy more of the food of their traditional diet.
