LOL! I was just doing my usual grumble about over prescribing or misleading patients. My cardioligist also told me I'd need to take the drugs for about 6 months to a year- when my 6 months was up I asked again and he just looked at me like I was from Mars and said "Well, you'll always have to take them". And I had liked him :crybaby:

ETeSelle, is right, you'd learn a lot reading Dr Esselstyn's book too. :) I've given away 2 copies and on my third, I give my self a refresher periodically when I need the support.

Dr McDougall planted the seeds back around 1990 when I heard him speak. Has he mentioned the McDougall muffler to anyone lately?

No.. I have not read Dr Esselstyn's book....I guess I will go order it from Amazon.
The BIG problem right now is diet..Hubby will not commit 100% to this lifestyle..He eats much healthier than before surgery, but he will not go totally plant strong..he still eats chicken and fish...

Make him read Dr. E's book. Seriously. It may be more likely to hit home w/ him b/c it's specific to heart disease.

Read my Star McDougaller Story and my Testimonial thread

Trust me on this: One day you'll wake up and realize that it no longer feels like "being strict." It just feels GOOD. :)

Actually, in a lot of cases they do get monetary kickbacks... there is a set policy standard of care that involves prescribing meds and practices are paid bonuses from health insurance companies for ensuring all their patients meet those standards.

While you are waiting for the book to arrive have him watch the video by Dr. Esselstyn called "Make Yourself Heart Attack Proof," found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYTf0z_zVs0

And if he has not seen it yet and if you have NetFlix ask him to watch Forks Over Knives, currently streaming.

Best wishes to you both. Personally, I don't understand people who have had something major happen in their lives (heart attack, cancer, autoimmune diseases) who will not do this WOE 100%, but I have certainly seen it happen over and over among my friends.

Research consistently show that Plavix should be used for 6 to 12 months following a stent (DES), and then stopped.

For people with a history of coronary artery disease (like a heart attack or heart surgery), I treat them with a baby aspirin daily and sufficient statin to keep their cholesterol below 150 mg/dL. This treatment is continued for several years.

No other medications are given routinely (only given with special circumstances).

Of course, the diet they eat makes all the difference.

John McDougall, MD

My cardiologist had me on Plavix for 14 months after my stent. I continue to be on aspirin therapy.
