Hello, I'm new. I don't have any books do I need any?
I brought my breakfast in to work and I think my soy milk is bad so I'm not sure maybe I'll just wait til lunch. :( I have grape nuts cereal and frozen strawberries but I see you can only have 2 servings of fruit so I guess I'll wait til lunch and drink water it's already 10:20 here.
I want to lose 20 lbs. My weakness is sweets like candy for sure. I have been eating vegan for over a year but have had eggs & cheese on pizza during that time otherwise beans.

I guess I shouldn't have soy milk?
Tomorrow I'll take a yukon potato for breakfast sounds good.
Anybody have any easy to go breakfast ideas. I go to the gym and eat afterward otherwise I feel sick when I exercise.

Welcome aboard, Mariaane! While buying a book or video is not essential, you may find them very helpful!

See

http://www.drmcdougall.com/free.html

The options here are endless. If you want to keep it simple and easy (as I do) you could eat veggies and rice and very little of anything else. If you want to cook and make it more interesting, you may want to buy some of the books. Regardless, I think you will be very happy with the results!

Keep us posted on your journey!!! :-D

Also, take the time to watch Dr. McDougall's Starch Solution video at:

It's a great introduction to the program.

Good for working out.

I like rolled oats and cut fruit in water. Fruit is whatever is seasonal or cheap, like apples and bananas in winter, sweet fruit and berries in summer. Also make a good snack.

Potatoes make good to go food. Often take baked seasoned potato wedges leftovers that go into a plastic bag.

A piece of fruit is always good to go food.

Welcome Marianne! Like Pinkrose, I like to keep it really simple, so breakfast is usually steel cut oats and steamed greens. I cook my oats in my slow cooker overnight so they're ready for the morning, and I steam up extra leafy greens at dinner for the next day. Then I take them with me in my backpack and eat them after I walk to school since I also like to eat after I exercise.

The regular plan allows for some higher fat items like soymilk and more fruit than the maximum weight loss plan, so it depends on what your goals are.

Thank you all for the ideas. Today I had some oatmeal and 1/2cp frozen strawberries. Have a salad for lunch with a salad dressing I finally found with no oil. Going to make homemade this weekend. Supper homemade vegetable soup and brown rice I made last night.
Thanks again. I'm one that if I have menus for each meal to follow I'm okay but if I have to just come up with something I have issues.

Sounds like a good start.

Yeah. The timeless question: "What's for dinner?"

I use a template for meals:
B: grain & fruit -- example: oatmeal and apple
L: soup & salad -- example: minestrone soup & tomato salad
D: starch & sauce -- example: pasta & spicy, chunky marinara sauce
S: fruit -- example: bananna

I have a list of "favorites" that are easy known fallbacks if no plan.

I try to select dishes that use the same ingredients and go together, like Italian, Mexican, or Indian. Then rotate.
