I've made this recipe twice and it's really good. I leave out the seeds because I'm on MWL and I think next time I'll use less sweetener too. I've been having it for an afternoon snack instead of for breakfast, but if I'm ever in a hurry in the morning I'll just grab one of these jars and pop it in the microwave!

I had a little trouble finding steel cut oats here in the UK but have found out they're sold as "coarse oatmeal".

What a neat idea. Thanks for the link. I could see doing something like that for breakfast on Christmas morning and putting a ribbon around each jar. :)

Those jars do look awfully pretty, don't they? A ribbon would set them off nicely!

I always bought scots oats for steel cut oats in the UK! They take the same amount of time to cook as the steel cut ones in recipes and are described about the same.
I thought oatmeal in the uk was something different? Not like porridge oats. I find the difference in terms for most foods confusing at times!
Let me know what you think?

I heard that Irish and Scots oats are similar to steel-cut oats but couldn't find them in the shops. I found the "coarse oatmeal" in a health food shop.

Porridge oats are similar to quick oatmeal in the US.
Jumbo oats are like old-fashioned oatmeal in the US.

...and Readybrek is like instant oats which I don't eat, because I can't stand the texture!

I bought the oats at holland and barrett. They were a really big bag and on buy one get one half price.

I agree about instant oats - they remind me of wallpaper paste!!

I went into two Holland & Barratts and didn't see Scots oats but maybe they were out of stock. I'll have to keep checking because where I found them in the end is a bit too far away for a regular shopping trip. I'm hooked on this recipe now so I'll have to make sure I have plenty of oats in the cupboard at all times!

I eat something similar to that for breakfast, but it's raw.

1/2 cut steel cut oats
1/2 cup soy milk
1tbsp chia seeds
touch of agave
dash of any of following spices - cinnamon, cardammon, nutmeg, all spice, cloves

Mix up and refrigerate for at least one hour or over night.
