I thought that since I am participating in the weekly weigh in and have been lurking for a few weeks that it was time to introduce myself! I am a 42 year old single parent of two. I have a 21 year old and a 1 year old. With working two jobs and parenting, I don't have a lot of time but I have finally been carving out time for cooking and it is really paying off!

I initally tried the eat to live program but I was so HUNGRY all the time. I had no self control when it came to eating nuts. It's a great program but it didn't work for me. Over several weeks I only lost 2 pounds. I've lost 13 pounds in two weeks on Mcdougall! I need my starches. :)

Two and a half weeks ago, I was diagnosed with diabetes. My doctor started off telling me that he wanted to put me on three medications(3!). He said that the best way to control my blood sugar was to take a diabetes medicine, a cholesterol medicine, and a blood pressure medicine together. Ummm.. what? He eventually noticed that I was looking at him like he had grown an extra head and he backtracked and said we would try the diabetes medicine by itself at first. Needless to say, I am very motivated to cure this with diet!

I am actually really new at cooking. I've lived my life on fast food and microwave dinners for the most part. So I am sure I will have a lot of questions! I made quinoa for the first time a few days ago and I really liked it. I didn't have any idea what to spice it with so I just had it plain but it was still yummy. :)

Looking forward to participating on the boards and getting to know you all better.

Kat

Kat - Welcome to the McDougall Forum! Thanks for the excellent introduction.

'Fast Food' doesn't have to be 'Bad Food'. McDougall's 'Quick and Easy Cookbook', the 'McDougall Made Easy' and 'McDougall Made Irresistible' DVD's and Jeff Novick's 'Fast Food' DVD will show you how to prepare quick and delicious meals that are healthful and satisfying.

Let us know how we can help. :-)

Hi Kat! Welcome! I commend you for taking charge of your health and deciding to change your diet to change your life!

I am 44, and was diagnosed with Type II when I was 36. I have reversed my disease. I was on two medications, my fasting bs was over 200, and my dr. wanted to put me on insulin when I finally decided to get serious about this WOE. I am now off all meds, and my fbs is right around 100 most days, but hardly ever above 120. I still have 50 pounds to lose, so I know my numbers will improve even more when I reach my goal weight.

I also recommend Jeff Novick's Fast Food DVD! You'll be amazed how easy it is to eat simple delicious food without too much effort!

Glad you're here! Keep us updated on your progress. :)

It's so good to hear someone else in a similar situation that has had success with this WOE. It just affirms that I am on the right track! :)

Hi Kat, welcome! This plan is really friendly to cooking-challenged folks. I used to rely almost entirely on restaurants, vending machines, and frozen pizza, but now I cook almost everything I eat. I can hardly believe it.

The Fast Food DVD was a big help in getting started. I'm also a big fan of electronic rice cookers for cooking brown rice or oatmeal. They're pricey but I use mine daily. I hate having to tend a pan on the stovetop.
