I thought that since I am participating in the weekly weigh in and have been lurking for a few weeks that it was time to introduce myself! I am a 42 year old single parent of two. I have a 21 year old and a 1 year old. With working two jobs and parenting, I don't have a lot of time but I have finally been carving out time for cooking and it is really paying off!
I initally tried the eat to live program but I was so HUNGRY all the time. I had no self control when it came to eating nuts. It's a great program but it didn't work for me. Over several weeks I only lost 2 pounds. I've lost 13 pounds in two weeks on Mcdougall! I need my starches.
Two and a half weeks ago, I was diagnosed with diabetes. My doctor started off telling me that he wanted to put me on three medications(3!). He said that the best way to control my blood sugar was to take a diabetes medicine, a cholesterol medicine, and a blood pressure medicine together. Ummm.. what? He eventually noticed that I was looking at him like he had grown an extra head and he backtracked and said we would try the diabetes medicine by itself at first. Needless to say, I am very motivated to cure this with diet!
I am actually really new at cooking. I've lived my life on fast food and microwave dinners for the most part. So I am sure I will have a lot of questions! I made quinoa for the first time a few days ago and I really liked it. I didn't have any idea what to spice it with so I just had it plain but it was still yummy.
Looking forward to participating on the boards and getting to know you all better.
