This remarkable vegetable has been the highlight of my garden. So easy to grow and the leaves do have a remarkable broccoli flavor. Great for adding to most recipes.
I have plants that have been harvested throughout our recent winter and they are still going strong. When flower buds appear I treat them the same as normal broccoli.
I have found some pictures of it on this site that also agrees on it's versatility.

Johnnys Seeds sell it however it is listed under Kale.
And it doesn't have the bitter taste of broccoli raab.

Thanks for the recommendation. I've been growing leafy oriental veggies for greens (reg and baby bok choi, mibuna, oriental cabbage), and even some regular broccoli for their leaves but would like other productive cruciferous sources - that are not bitter.

Here's the link to Johnny's. So much of their seed is hybrid - thankfully this one is not.

Glenn, thanks so much for this info--I'm going to have to try this.

I just checked their new on-line catalog, and they have moved it to the broccoli raab section. The link to it above still works. :)

I especially like that the leaves appear to be smooth - which should make it easier to wash.

I finally got around to planting the seed the other day, and the first 2 seedlings are poking their little leaves through the soil. It's been warm, dry and very windy here - hope they don't suffer too badly.

When we got it in the CSA box, the weekly newsletter had a recipe for a northern minnestrones with fresh tomatoes, but not tomato sauce, so it came out very light in color. It was delicious. I made it all through the early fall this year. I might try some next spring from the comments here. My primadonna is the sun gold tomatoes, but it might be nice to broaden the harvest.

Congrats on your new seedlings.

Mark
