Thank you :D !!

I was craving something different today so I decided to make black bean burgers. I put black beans, grinded oats, salsa, corn, sweet potatoes, bbq sauce and smashed it all together and cooked it in the oven at 450 degrees until crispy. I'm also making oven fries. Just remember there is no reason to get bored of this program. If you do, its your own fault because there are so many meals and receipes that you can try that are wonderful!!

I also took a trip to the farmers market and picked up lettuce, onions, corn, apples. I love apples!!

Hope everyone is having a good day!!

Hi Sksamboots! I've been "super lurking" for the past couple of months. Just want to say hello. Sounds like you're doing super. The black bean burgers sound delicious and will be on my menu soon. All the best!

I agree with you about the salt. I just watched Dr. McD's short video about salt today and I decided that I will go back to adding a little iodized sea salt to my food at the table. I originally went low salt because I had high blood pressure, but have been off bp meds for months now and BP is better than it ever was when I was on med! I'll monitor the BP and see how it goes.

I knew I had seen bean burgers mentioned yesterday -- I think I will try that one day this week, with some baked sweet potato fries. I have a football-sized sweet potato in the pantry I need to do something with!

Boots! You're doing GREAT!!!! 8 pounds in one week?????? Yeah, I'd say, don't sweat on measley little pound! You are doing AWESOME. Thanks for posting your meals...those black bean burgers sound wonderful! How did they turn out???

I'm still trying to decide how to eat after my fast, so I'm looking at people's menus and results very closely. You are one to follow! What are your thoughts on intermittent fasting??? Have you ever tried it? Do you think it's a good idea? Just curious...I respect your opinion. I really want to knock out this last 45 pounds as quickly as possible, so I'm doing my homework...haven't formed many set opinions yet.

Keep up the great work, you're an inspiration!!

The black bean burgers turned out really good. A little too good as I lost all control and overate. Tis life. Thank goodness that we can go to sleep and start over the next day....LOL

I've done lots of research on fasting. I have searched lots of websites. I've done a week water fast myself. I sometimes hate posting this because I don't want people getting mixed messages but I do believe that fasting can be very beneficial. The most important thing about fasting is what you do after you fast. The re-feeding faze and your meal plan for the rest of your life. If I remember correctly for every 3 days you fast you need one day of re-feeding. So if you are fasting for 21 days you need 7 full days of re-feeding before you can introduce the full plant based diet. During the 7 days out of all my research the best food for your body is papaya, mango, and watermelon. You can eat this in unlimited amounts. After the 7 days, you can add back in your full plant based diet.

Intermitten fasting. It's something new I've been toying with after reading Lani's blog and reading some of Dr. Furhmans blog. I believe it's really about listening to one's body. Do you really need 3 meals a day? Are you hungry or are you just eating a 3rd meal because that's the way society has set it up? I find that most of the time I'm fine with breakfast and dinner. I don't need anymore. There were days where I would eat 1 meal because that was all I needed. I would listen to my hunger and let it lead me to whether I needed to eat or not. Sometimes emotions have gotten in the way and I haven't always been successful with intermitten fasting but I do believe in it. I don't even think it should be called "fasting." It should be just natural eating of listening to your body and eat when you are hungry. We don't need 3 meals and 2 snacks to survive and have energy. We just don't.

I understand your need for fast weight loss. I think you get the basis. Also, when you start your plant based diet limit salt to no more than 500 mg. Eat no sugers except for the natural sugars in fruit and no oil. You know these basic things. At first, I believed in the no salt rule but then I started to read about thyroid health and research and the need for iodine. No sea Salt is not permitted. You need to find a good iodized table salt or supplement with iodized vitamins.

The rest you already know. Eat your salad before you eat your starch. Chew your food. Take your time with eating. Listen to your body and let it be your guide. Don't let your emotions get in the way.

This is all my research and knowledge has led me. This program works if you do it. It's set up to help you be successful. I always just tell myself I got to get out of the way and let the program work. You are smart. Keep making smart moves....Let me know if you have any other questions. I'm sure I could link you to the articles that references everything I just explained; however, that would take time but this is not my information or made up. I did lots of research and looked for the best scholarly advice.

Good for you, Boots. I am glad it's working for you. I don't fast, but am only eating 3 meals a day with no snacks and that alone, has helped me a lot. Keep it up!

Good morning ya’ll :D !!

I didn’t prepare my food to take to work yesterday. I’m not sure what happened; Life did. You know you get busy and before you know it is lunch time and you have nothing to eat but fruit. I didn’t want fruit. I went to Trader Joes and I picked up some microwavable frozen brown rice; the only ingredient listed was brown rice without salt. I also picked up a can of red beans, pineapples and an avocado. I went back to work microwaved the brown rice and added cut up pineapples and avocado to it with some crushed red peppers I found from someone, who went to pizza hut and added a little salt. I didn’t feel like adding red beans but now I have it in my desk incase something else comes up in the future and I have more brown rice packets that I put in the freezer at work. I remember a day when they didn’t not have microwavable brown rice bowls. There is so much out there that there is no reason not to be on plan. If I had decided too, they even have frozen Mcdougall mashed potatoes.

I’ve been doing good with my plans and goals. I went out last weekend to a Japanese restaurant. If you are ever in Berkeley there is a restaurant called Cha Ya. They make a killer steamed brown rice and veggie bowl. I love the different Chinese vegetables that they use because I never cook with them at home. They also have a good miso soup and a vegetable sushi. After I ate that, my husband and I had talked about going to a vegan restaurant and getting a meal later. My mind had already planned it out. I didn’t care about oil. It’s funny how within 30 minutes my brain wanted some oil. We went out and ran errands and luckily, I was so tired from my early morning workouts that I fell asleep in the car and we didn’t go out to eat after all. I’m so grateful I fell asleep!! LOL. I’ve been going a month strong and I just got to keep at it.

I have had the hunger bug for 2 days. I’m not sure what that is about. I can be a volume eater sometimes and for the last 2 days I have been eating past full and making no effort at stopping. It’s all been MWL food too. I’m going to be more conscious of this today because I don’t want to be uncomfortably full. Sometimes it takes a conscious effort.

Not much else kiddos. I’m around. See ya later  .

Boots, Thank you so much for the detailed response to my questions! I love the way you explained everything. If you do get a chance, I would like the references to any articles you think I should read...but only if it's not too much trouble. :)

The way you described it sounds a lot like "Intuitive Eating" by Evelyn Tribole, MS, RD and Elyse Resch, MS. The problem with this method for me in the past was always my addictive personality. I used it as an excuse to eat lots of junk, which doesn't really make any sense. Now I see it from a healthier perspective, and I think it makes a lot of sense.

Anyway, I have a lot to think about. For now, I have 15 days left of my juice fast, which is really going well and I'm enjoying. Thanks again for your input. I really value your wisdom and experience and easy-going attitude...this is life, like you said. Thanks!

Debbie- how has the intermittent fasting been working for you?
