In Sydney we have this Christian radio station (Hope 103.2).

On one of their programs (Open House) they discussed 'near death experiences' with some doctors and nurses talking about their experiences of dealing with patients. One nurse rang in and told this wonderful story which I think for me is all the proof one needs - if you need evidence. Although I have been brought up in a Christian family and myself believe in God I found my heart was jumping at this story. She told of being a trainee nurse and one of the patients in the hospital was an old male patient (in his 80's). She use to make a point of speaking to him every time she was on duty. One day she decided that she needed to know if he believed in God and so she asked. He said, 'Jesus is my friend'. She said she felt relieved that he knew God. A while went by, and she continued to visit him and have chats and one day she decided to come in early and spend some time chatting to him before her shift started. She was talking to him (standing at the left side of the bed), however he was looking at the right side of the bed. He then said to her, Jesus is here in the room, he has his arms open and wants me to come home. At that point he died. She spoke about wanting to take her shoes off as it was like being on hallowed ground, however knew that she needed to report his death. What a wonderful story this is.

This is lovely. It reminds me of a story I head recently about a little boy in the hospital with terminal cancer. One day he tells the nurse that he needs to pack his bags, he is going home today! She is upset that anyone would give a child such false hope, and spends the day asking everyone who could have told him such a thing, neglecting to ask him who told him that. Obviously, none of the staff said any such thing, nor did his family.

Finally she goes in to ask him who said that, and arrives to find that he has already passed with a smile on his face.

Who do you believe told him he was going home? And to which home?

those stories make me feel at ease with it all. So sweet the story of the little boy in hospital.

You know what amazes me the most is that in that story regarding the old man, Jesus actually came to get him. Now to me, Jesus would be a pretty busy dude, however, instead of getting some angel to assist him, he goes himself. How special can one feel knowing that. Here is the son of God coming to get you in person. WoW - now apart from how wonderful the story was, that is what blows me away. How loved are we. And, how wonderful must heaven be - with all that love.

My husband told me that when his Dad was dying of cancer at the age of 49, just before he died he had been unresponsive, then opened his eyes, and said "thank you" . And he was gone.

If all of this doesn't make you think twice about what happens as we are 'leaving' this earth and what happens after we die - don't really know what is giong to make a person think beyond this life. It is amazing that someone can be unresponsive and then just before they die - open their eyes and say thank you. I think that is so amazing and so beautiful. Because it is the thing that your husband remembers.
