Loveskale, I am going to try your idli/dosa recipe! I have only made idli once before, from a packaged mix. I don't have idli molds so maybe I will make dosas :) Thank you for posting this.

I hope you feel better very soon. And good lucl on your upcoming test.

hey lk, i was looking at your recipes (they look great btw!) and saw you made congee with brown rice. how did that turn out? did the rice soften up & release all its starch like plain white rice would? how long did it take? i make congee a lot & always heard brown rice wouldn't work so i've always used white. how does the taste compare?

OMG, thanks loveskale for that Indian lesson. Can you tell me anything about the many Indian vegetables I see at the stores? I sometimes just ask people buying the vegetable what they do with it, but if you can share some of what is what and what you do with them then I'd really be happy. I want to try this recipe too.

Funny thing is happening regarding being "sick". My kids had/have colds. One has the typical runny nose. I have been feeling a cold coming on for a week but the symptoms are only noticeable occasionally and I feel a little tired. I am wondering if eating so healthfully has really amped-up my immune system or why am I barely feeling this cold. I love it!

Marla, I know this recipe isn't as healthy as a whole-grain recipe, I have it once in a while. I know that starch is essential to GF cooking so that's why I don't mind. I am never tempted to eat the rice otherwise.

Eri, I use short-grain brown rice. I have never made it with white rice. However, the short grain brown rice cooks down in a pleasing way, it takes 1 and a half to 2 hours, thought it doesn't dissolve 100%, it still tastes fantastic. I have never made congee with white rice.

Kitty, I am happy you like my recipes!

Starchbeet, I know almost all of these vegetables and what to do with them: put them in Indian curries! I'll post my sambar recipe sometime! There is a fantastic cookbook, "The Modern Ayurvedic" by Amrita Sondhi, it is vegetarian but no vegan, and if you have a basic understanding of how to cook McDougall, and I'm sure you have, they are easy to convert.

Hi, LK. Hope your test went well and I hope you are better. Your Indian recipes sound very good. I haven't had much Indian food, so I don't know what it is supposed to look like, etc. Maybe, I'll be brave and try one of your recipes.

You are lucky to have your sister cook for you! Was the Jambayla one of your recipes??

Hi Boots!

Hi Simon, the Jumbalaya is my SISTER's recipe believe it or not. She knows how to make things vegan after living with one for nearly a decade  I just explained to her how to make it oil-free.

Indian food is no scary, but delicious. I will finally post my pictures right now!

Oh yes, my day!

B: Steam potatoes
L: Jumbalaya w/ watermelon and plums
D: Pumpkin soup, sweet-potato rice pilaf, and spicy asian greens
D: 3 cups of tea w/ sugar and almond milk, 1 cup of green tea, 1 cup of chamomile tea w/honey

I made an amazing discovery today. For so long I had problems with needing to pee frequently, then I realised that while I was drinking green tea, and therefore no tea with almond milk, it got better. Then, when I started drinking tea w/ almond milk, it came back! Crazy how that happens! Yay me, I cured myself. I had tea this morning because I did not want to risk getting a headache for my test. After my test, no more tea, and I plan to keep it that way. From now on, just my nightly chamomile tea w/ honey.

I've also found out that while drinking the tea my IBS flared up. My insides are so swollen I feel like I've put on weight, and I hope I haven't.

I am really determined to finish this last leg of McDougall diet and get healthy. I want to LOOK as healthy as I feel. I will go to the gym tomorrow.

HI Loveskale,

I just thought I would tell uyou about my experience wit giving up tea and coffee.

OMG I feel so much better . IT took about four weeks for the cravings to go away.and interestingly enough I no longer need that little boost of caffeine (mind you it was small as all my stuff was decafeinated this is an oxymoron because really decafeinated stuff is nto cafeine free but rather reduced cafeine) Strill it was a thing my body would crave.

now I can even walk into the starbucks with a friend and no cravings at all.

but most interesting was just how much better I feel on my insides. And the underlying anxiety /irritation I would get in the afternoon is gone.

Hi Boots, I remember that too!

Hi Kitty, I ws about to post that I had come to two definitely conclusions, one of them was teh extra sugar from tea was giving me anxiety. I still have a problem if I don't have something hot to drink, although I might consider it. One thing at a time for me, but I will definitely switch back to plain green tea soon.

The other conclusion is that I am sure non-dairy milks cause me issues. After this cold I started drinking tea w/ almond milk and I am pretty sure it is causing me the pains I had this morning. They were TERRIBLE. :duh:

I didn't get to the gym today, I did however walk for 10 minutes, ride my bike for 15, and did 10 minutes of yoga. It is not much, but it is a start.

B: Congee
L: Cashew larabar, crackers, and polenta
D: Kale-pumpkin polenta "pasta", braised beans w/ veggies, chimichurri sauce. I may or may not have a salad.
D: Tea w/sugar
E: 25 minutes of random exercise.

I had spearmint or peppermint tea most of the summer. My plants are slowing down tremendously plus I learned they like it dry and sunny and I've had them in the shade and its been so wet. But I have been drinking pots of coffee since 2000 and I am now off my habit. I had one cup since being on McDougall plan and I shook and was on edge for most of the day. I also bought some tea drinks at Costco once and I had one and I was "flying" that day.

Did you purchase that cashew larabar or make it loveskale?

We have some leftover from our camping trip. We bought them.

I find sugar makes me anxious and hyper more than caffeine; I feel it is more important to drop sugar rather than caffeine. Honey isn't as bad, and I only put that in my nightly chamomile tea. I am trying to reduce my sugar intake to just that one drink.
