You are so right, Boots! I was reflecting on my past year, and was so frustrated that I basically had a net-loss of about 10 pounds...that is until I got back on track recently. But it made me really mad at myself as I realized that all the excuses and allowances I've made over the past year have only hurt me. It's actually HARDER to sort of do it than to just DO it! Thanks for your sharing your thoughts with us so we all can benefit!

:) Peace

good for you boots! I like getting my running out of the way first thing early in the morning too. Lots of reasons:

~ belly is empty, makes it easier to run
~ starts your day off right
~ can get all gross before your shower
~ streets are empty and weather cooler (I run outside)
~ get to watch the sunrise
~ doesn't feel like a big interruption in your day once you've adapted to the earlier schedule

If you're feeling sleepy, maybe make your bedtime earlier, or get to bed right when you feel tired instead of staying up. I've found it's easier to get to bed early than it is to get up early after staying up late.

Anyway, "keep on keeping on" as you always say :)

Woke up at 5am :D . I think I might be back to 5am workouts because I feel better when I do. Why? I have no idea but when I was waking up at 6am I felt light headed and really tired. At 5am, I feel energized and ready to hit my workout. Is it because my body was pre-conditioned to do it before, I'm not sure but all I know is I feel great!! I only had around 6 1/2 hours of sleep and I'm ready to start my day. I normally feel like I require 9 plus hours to feel reseted. I'll let you know how I felt later, LOL 8)

I have my oatmeal cooked for today with fruit for breakfast

I have steamed potatoes and zuc for lunch

Fruit for Snack

Water for Beverage

1 hour of exercise done. I did 15 minutes of jump-rope, 15 minutes of going up and down stairs, and 30 minutes on a stationary bike

It's 6:30am and I'm ready for a successful day. Remember you are in control of your choices, one meal at a time TGIF :-)

I know what you mean about finally craving the good food whole foods this way of eating offers. It is a turning point for sure.

You definitely bring it! Your success on this program creates the foundation for everyone who reads your journal.

You are doing so great! Thanks for being here.

Good job getting up again! I hear you on those super early workouts. I remember when I was in my early morning running habit, for some reason I hit a second wave of tiredness if I try to get up at 6am-ish, but an hour earlier if I woke up, I felt fine (just made myself go back to sleep cuz it was too early). Zee body is weird.

Boots, you are amazing! Your menu sounds great. And your early workouts just show how dedicated you are.

Jumping rope is hard isn't it! We got a jump rope a few weeks ago and have been using it a few times a week, just for fun, for short sessions. I have to wear two sports bras when I jump rope (and I am small-chested). Other than that I really like it. It kicks my butt -- in a good way!!

Good morning :-)

Hope everyone is doing well. I really appreciate, whomever, looks at my journal. It keeps me motivated and makes me want to post.

We all have choices to make. Sometimes they area really small choices that can have a big ripple affect on our lives over time. Sometimes they are huge life changing right away choices that we make, which we instantly notice. The choice of what we are going to eat for a meal or the choice of whether we will exercise for the day or not are small choices that will have a big ripple affect over time.

Saturday I made the choice to eat 1 cookie, which led to me eating 3 vegan cookies throughout the day. I made the choice. I realized what I was doing when I made the choice. I took the responsibility. In the past, I might have taken a bite of the cookie and put it in my mouth before I knew what I was doing. I would eat unconsciously. Lately, I have made the choice to be present and aware of everything that I am eating.

I did not have a cookie binge on Saturday. I want that to be clear. I made the choice to have 3 cookies—not 3 cookies in a row but 3 cookies throughout the day. I also made the choice after I had 1 cookie to have a Mcdougall meal. I had a choice at that moment. After I ate 1 cookie, we later went to a vegan restaurant—on the same day. I could have gone for the French fries and fried up fake meat but instead I made the choice to have a plate of steamed veggies and steamed rice. I could have continued down a very destructive day. I could have just said “oh well, I ate 3 cookies, why eat well now? Why not go out with a bang and eat until my hearts desires? But I didn’t.

I hope this makes since. Sometimes we make excuses. I used to be an excuse queen. I used to be an unconscious eater. I’m not anymore. I know that I ate 3 cookies and that it was not a wise choice but it was a choice I made at that time and a choice I’m not guilty with. I post this so to lead by example, not to air out my dirty laundry or because I have guilt. You don’t have to let 1 choice ruin the rest of your day. You can pick it right back up at the next meal and choose a Mcdougall friendly meal. We all have choices; it’s just up to you how it all goes down.

I’m also happy to report that it didn’t cause any cravings. I’ve come a long way. This thinking has developed over years. It doesn’t happen over night, so don’t be hard on yourself. The journey is so worth it. I don’t want perfection. Perfection is unobtainable. I truly believe that. I am only looking for improvement. I’m making improvements with my choices and every time they just seem to get better and better.

I also didn’t want to exercise this weekend. I had an internal battle but I still went for 45 minute walks on Saturday and Sunday. I didn’t regret them.

I have lost 8 pounds in following the Mcdougall plan 100% for 1 month August 2011 to September 2011. It’s time for a new month. I’m making the choice to continue on, I have goals to reach.

Breakfast: Chai Tea with a raw almond bar, which was oil free and Mcdougall friendly
Lunch: Will be Oatmeal and cooked fruit
Snack: popcorn
Dinner: Steamed squash and zucchini with sweet potatoes and Yukon gold potatoes
Snack if needed: Fruit
Exercise: 1 hour of walking.

Have a good day!! What will you choose differently today? 1 meal at a time…1 snack at a time. I’m rooting for you and always lurking ;-)

Great post, Boots! How true. We really do choose, moment by moment and day by day, and the better our choices, the closer we live the life we truly want. Thanks for honestly sharing your journey so others can benefit. Oh, yeah, and congrats on the 8 pounds! That's awesome!

Peace
