Well Vanilla Orchid, it just so happens that where I live we have a canal and narrow boats to hire! Check this out http://www.silsdenboats.co.uk/
so we could meet up and you could have a holiday!
YES!!!! My husband and I did visit York the last time we went to the UK, and loved it.
I checked out the webisite and I'm curious about this passage:
"Please note that we require a refundable £250.00 deposit from single sex parties and also for those parties comprising of people 25 years and under (of either sex). Payable in CASH on arrival."
Maybe you could enlighten me: I can certainly understand charging a deposit for the boat, but I cannot imagine why the owners would waive the charge when renting to a mixed gender group as opposed to only men or only women.
Anyway, I'll be in the UK next week--July 23-30, but it's just a quick trip to Oxford and London and pretty well booked up--it's a group thing meeting up with a bunch of lawyers and getting continuing education credits for attending some lectures, and doing some other fun stuff like seeing a play, and having dinner with some barristers at one of the Inns of Court. Wish I could stay longer and see more of the country.
I have talked to a few McDougallers in CA about wanting to take a canal trip through England, and I'm pretty sure I could organize nice group . . .
