I've been thinking about a video I saw on YouTube a few years ago with Drs. Fuhrman and McDougall sitting on a panel and getting a beat heated about the differences between their plans. My take-away, particularly after reading books from both of them, is that while Dr. McDougall is most definitely more "starch-based," and Dr. Fuhrman is more "nutritarian"/green vegetable and fruit based....there is a fair amount of overlap between these plans. A lot of it has to do with whose counsel/personality/approach you value more. Case in point: Furhman's plan requires a certain level of "starch" to get you to sufficient calories, and McDougall's plan leaves room for vegetables and fruit, and even a bit of higher fat nuts/avocados, etc., if you are active and no longer trying to lose weight.
