Hi Jeff,

What is safe in the microwave? Could you list? Silicone? Hard Plastic like they make micro popcorn poppers out of, oh and is teflon being heated to gaseous unsafe levels in this really neat cookware I'm asking you to check out...

called Microware Better Microwave Cooker using Far Infrared Heating

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003TX ... YFPBBF1GFN

This is another variation which says it also cooks with far infrared.

Also, what do you think of this?

I don't know as it is not an area I study.

However, I use plain food on the glass tray or a glass bowl and am always leary of any plastic being heated.

Thanks. So you would NOT buy silicone to steam foods in the microwave?

I've been using corning ware always. But soon will be having a microwave that is built in so it is high up and awkward. Corning ware, plus McDougall foods is heavy, and corningware gets HOT! So I was looking for lightweight and silicone sure fits the bill of light and doesn't get hot.

Maybe I'll have to buy the lighter weight corningware?

I don't know. :)

I have never looked into it and so can not say if it is safe or not.

Sorry. :(

Health Canada says this about silicone
http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/hl-vs/iyh-vsv/pr ... er-eng.php

Silicone Cookware

Silicone is a synthetic rubber which contains bonded silicon (a natural element which is very abundant in sand and rock) and oxygen.

Cookware made from food grade silicone has become popular in recent years because it is colorful, nonstick, stain-resistant, hard-wearing, cools quickly, and tolerates extremes of temperature. There are no known health hazards associated with use of silicone cookware.

Silicone rubber does not react with food or beverages, or produce any hazardous fumes.

-----I wish there could be certainty. Silicone cookware is pretty, lightweight, doesn't get hot, and lasts forever I'd think unless poked or cut. Sigh----To be or not to be a guinea pig, that is the question.
