Thank you, aprilmay! Glad you enjoyed it!
You know, I thought that making a Christmas pageant animation would be a very simple and straight forward little project but it ended up being much more complicated than I ever imagined!
First, I CAREFULLY read those parts of the Bible, in various translations, and tried to get as close to the original Greek meaning, as possible. Then, I started wondering about little details such as hair styles, clothing, head ware, specific dates, etc. So, I searched the web for info about when Jesus was born and about how he dressed, etc.
Unfortunately, the more info I found, the more confused I became! Every site had a different idea of when Jesus was born and how he looked! Some said he was born in a cave because caves served as backrooms/storage rooms to a good number of the houses in Bethlehem, some said a stable, some said just a backroom (not a cave) of a house that had a manger in it because, during bad weather, folks let their animals come into the backrooms of their houses. WOW! Decisions, decisions, decisions! (I ended up going with a cave that was a backroom with a manger in it. Hahaha! )
Plus, in the video, I did not give any specific dates/seasons (except for our present-day Christmas season) and stuck to the basic "Western stereo type" of how Jesus "may have looked" as an adult.
I am GUESSING that Jesus' birth took place somewhere between 7 and 4 BC -- probably around 5 BC. This is due to the fact King Herod the Great died in 4 BC. Since our present-day Christmas celebration is held on Dec. 25, I included that celebration in the video -- and uploaded in plenty time for that -- even though that is most likely NOT the actual date of Jesus' birth.
The map of the Roman Empire (from the http://www.timemaps.com site) is the empire at AD 1. That was the closest I could find to 5 BC. I do NOT think that the borders of the empire changed very drastically during those few years. (Well, I HOPE they did not, anyway! )
BUT, I enjoyed the challenge of making this “mini-movie” (as I like to call my projects) and I am SO GLAD that some folks ACTUALLY like it!
Happy McDougalling!
