You can read sample pages from the book at books.google.com and on Amazon. Looks like a keeper!

It really is so inspirational. I finished it quickly, it's a fast read. I think it's for any age too, not just seniors. Glad you bough it, Laura!!

Well, I'm 53, so...if I'm not there already, I'm pretty close. LOL.

I agree it is a good book. I groan to look at the front cover, though. Ruth is shown running up the mountain by Machu Pichu in Peru. Due to the high altitude I found it difficult to walk up the mountain much less run. She is something else. I liked her phrase that the "Pain of regret (eg suffering from a chronic illness) is greater than the pain of discipline (eg exercising today.) Inspiring woman

It looks like a great book to read and have. I also just ordered it. It sure gets harder to stay fit when you are older and have a sitting job, I drive.

It's a very good book - I just finished reading it for the second time. It's a good motivator for me to get out and do more running. It's very humbling to know that someone who is 25 yrs. older than me is probably much faster and she definitely has more endurance.

I don't know if I could eat like she does though - all raw.

She has only been raw in the last few years, and as several threads here and on Jeff's forum show raw is definitely not necessasry, and always healthy. I find her inspiring for athletic devotion, passion, joy, and early commitment to the McDougall prinicples that show clearly what long term adherence can do.

Another schlub checking in!

I started reading the book last night and I'm feeling very motivated right now! This morning there was a picture in my local paper of two older, single women who are house-sharing...a new trend, apparently. I looked at them and thought, "How nice for these old ladies to have companionship." Then I read the article and saw their ages - 57 and 51!!! I'm 53!

I am more resolved than ever to stick to my healthy diet and now I realize I need exercise as well.

Edited: Because I found the picture online...

Oh My!!! They do look a lot older!!! I have been whining a lot lately, because it is REALLY REALLY HOT and HUMID here and i feel sick when i walk, literally. I drink water, i rest, it doesn't matter, i'd rather whine than go out in this unbearable heat.

I can't go out in heat and humidity either. I can, but I'll end up with a terrible headache.

Oh, and my husband looked at that picture and said "They lied about their ages." LOL...could be. Frankly, if I were ever to lie about my age, I'd add years. Then people would say "She looks GREAT for her age!".

I just ordered this book and I can't wait to get it in the mail. I have been excercising for 2 1/2 years now and I am glad that I started this excersize program. When I starting excercising 2 1/2 years ago I was weighing 204 lbs. I am now weighing 163 lbs from excercising and change of diet. My diet tho hasn't been vegetarian. I am now in the process of changing my diet to a vegan diet (I just decided to make the change in diet this weekend). I have several of the McDougall books which I have been going thru to get recipe ideas. I decided to change my diet to vegan because I got sick of the meat I was eating and I had gotten to a plateau with my weight loss.

FYI,
Senior Fitness is available as a $9.99 Kindle download. I ordered it from Amazon and was reading it 30 seconds later on my iPod Touch. I got John Robbins' new book the same way.
