Sweet News about the Sugar Habit.
Article "Sugar: Adding Pleasure to the Satisfaction of Starches"

I'm Curious. Inquiring mind wants to know...
Has anyone purposely, knowingly increased the amount of sugar in his/her diet after reading the above article in the recent newsletter :?:

Well, it certainly gave me permission. Sadly, it also launched a few weeks of sugar excess. Now, it's back to usual.

Thanks to those who have responded.
The "Sugar" I'm curious about is not sugar in whole fruits and other whole foods, but added-to-food "sugars" such as white, granulated, powdered, brown, evaporated cane, turbinado, powdered fructose; honey, agave, molasses, maple, karo, golden and other syrups, etc. etc.

I came to this board after reading Dr. McDougall's article on sugar. I have long felt (without any research to support my feelings) that a little sugar (even the white crystals) are not as evil as many seem to believe. For example, it seems that some are determined to sweeten their oatmeal with something other than sugar. While you definitely get more nutrition from adding fruit to your oatmeal, it is sometimes quite inconvenient and may not taste as good as oatmeal with sugar added. I like to add a little brown sugar to mine (which I eat only when I am in the USA). Since you can sweeten a large bowl of oatmeal with less than an ounce (106 Kc) of brown sugar, I do not think this would be a problem for most people. So, unless one has a problem with eating a little sugar, I agree with the good doctor. Add a little sugar to make the healthy starches more palatable and enjoy them! :-D

I agree with pinkrose--I read the article and said to myself, "Well, well!" and allowed myself not to feel at all guilty about my dressing that is made, in part, with maple syrup. I have stevia in my 1 - 2 cups of tea or hot water. But I have no intention to introduce any other sugar into my diet! I've still got a lot of weight to lose.

So--perhaps wisdom with age--I read the article as another piece of evidence that this way of eating is not at all as "extreme" as the detractors say.
