(Talkin' about the little workout thang...that there "Swiss Ball," ...not the good-lookin' feller wallerin' around on there, just as happily as a spring groundhog on the swampie side of the interstate ramp  )

Anybody here have any experience with these sorts of things???? Like, is it practical to inflate/deflate this thing as needed...and would your cat come along and destroy it with one wack?????

Have a look...looks like it'd be pretty effective:

Well, I want the male model that comes with it. :D Yes, I have used them and my daughter does extensively. Don't get the cheap ones. I bought mine at a reputable fitness store. The ones there don't burst explosively, unlike the cheap ones. You have to get sized for them (if you are about 5 ft 6 inches you likely need the 55 cm model. You don't deflate them. They are extremely effective. When I went through an orientation at the Y, they said that when they put men who can bench press 300 on them they suddenly are shaking and quivering at 150. They force you to use your core for everything and move slower, so they are super effective. Ours lasted 2 years. I don't know about the cat thing, but I can tell you that one of ours escaped in the basement where we were keeping it and the next time I visited it was deflated. :( The only downside is storage, but for a while I got around that by using it as my office chair. My daughter has been after me to replace it so thanks for the reminder.

Definitely get the right size. I ordered a balance ball (they are also called this) from a store that only had one size. What did I know? It ended up that some of the exercises I can't do right because I am too short.

I know these exercises target muscles in a different way but I haven't found a particular tape that I like the best. So right now I'm doing yoga & one of my aerobic weight training videos that is my current favorite, and going for walks when the weather permits.

I've been thinking about doing the program you are on, but I'm prone to back and neck problems, plus I've had tendinitis in one shoulder and a messed up knee (and the other knee hurts on occasion). A number of exercise programs I get I end up stopping because they cause me pain. What I'm doing now seems to work everything without that.

So I've been waffling back and forth. The last thing I want to do is trigger one of these problems again. But I don't want my favorite groundhog to get all ripped and leave me behind

Can you imagine p90x if Tony used these things?

Here is another alternative to the stability balls you were looking at. I think I'll get one of these if I can find them when I go replace our ball.

I've wanted a BOSU for years! But I just can't get myself to pay that much for one. That video is insane!

I have had a couple of stability/exercise/balance/whatever-you-want-to-call-it balls. I've always bought the cheap ($15-20) ones and never had one burst. I think they were Reebok or some other name brand. I have been through 2 though due to my kitties... I think they try to jump onto them and then onto something else and are surprised when they move. They get a hole from a kitty nail but deflate slowly, never burst. Now maybe if they jumped onto it while I was sitting or otherwise putting weight on it, that might be a different story. They're great for working your core while doing other exercises on the ball. Definitly worth the money.

I've been just walking this week - have logged 15 miles with the pooches this week. :-D Feeling like it's time to add something else to work the upper body at least too though.

I saw one of those things with the flat bottom to it at the sporting store the other day while we were buying ourselves some yoga blocks to make the p90x yoga x a little easier...didn't look at it very good, because I had no idea what the thing was.

Those weighted stability balls look pretty neat, but with animals and an extremely small house...no place to store, etc....well, I think maybe that wouldn't really be that practical for us.

I might go back to that store and look at that other thing...like that half ball thing with the flat bottom...one of these days before too long, when we're done with our 90 days!
