The recipes are extra delicious sounding to me this month (as well as healthful, as usual). I will be preparing both the Moroccan Red Lentil Soup and the Hearty Split Pea Vegetable Soup this week. I have tried for years to create a recipe for a really tasty Split Pea soup, that I could consistently repeat. This recipe will do it!!

I also enjoy the personal comments that Mrs. McDougall includes in the recipe section.

I'm printing out the article on calcium because this is the question I always get asked the most.

My doctor is really pushing calcium supplementation since I had a hysterectomy in Aug. Now I have some ammunition :-D that I can personally hand her.

Thanks Dr. McDougall for all the great and helpful info in your newsletters. I ALWAYS enjoy them and benefit from them. :D

I thought the calcium article was not as convincing as other pieces by Dr. McDougall, mostly because he didn't use the argument that highly acidic foods, like milk, cause the body to withdraw more calcium from the bones to maintain acid-base balance, than these foods provide. So the net result of milk drinking is a calcium LOSS.

I am looking forward to the whole series of articles on nutrition in the upcoming newsletters!

I plan on printing out this article on calcium and the rest of the articles in the whole series on nutrition. Then I plan on putting all of them together in a paper folder (like a booklet) and titling the whole thing “2007 NUTRITION ARTICLES by John A. McDougall, M.D.”. This ‘booklet” should provide powerful ammunition that I can put right into the hands of those who attack me for not eating meat, dairy, eggs, added oils/fat, and excessive amounts of any kind of protein.

People have a hard time believing something different than what they were raised with, the Calcium article is a good way to maybe help sway them in a new direction. :-D
Looking forward to the rest of the info so I can give it to a friend who has started drinking milk again for the "calcium" she thinks it provides, she was taking supplements but decided it would be easier to drink milk than take pills. :?
