For some reason I am still really confused about this. I am sure it is easy, but duh......
Okay, so rice cakes for instance, are high calorie density, but cooked rice is not.
puffed rice is high in calorie density? and they are oaky? All that air doesnt reach my stomach, so I am not filled up, right? So if it takes 2.5 cups of puffed rice to fill me up and for the same amount of calories of 1 cup of shredded wheat, why then would the puffed rice be preferable? I am missing something, or really having a duh moment.

I am not comparing Puffed Rice to Shredded wheat, both of which are calorie dense. The only difference is that the puffed rice has move volume that is from air, which I am saying (and the studies show) is not as effective in creating satiety as volume that is created by water in a food.
I am comparing both puffed rice and shredded wheat to cooked brown rice or cooked oatmeal.
If you read the above link, there is a discussion on this.
Brown rice would be best because it is low in calorie density, high in water content and high in satiety. It wins on all counts.
Puffed rice and Shredded wheat have a similar calorie density but because of the volume from the air, the puffed rice would be a little more satiating because of the volume created by the air.
What is OK or not is not up to me but up to you based on where you are at and what your health goals are. For weight loss, neither puffed cereals or air popped popcorn or shredded wheat would be the best choice. Oatmeal would be far superior. You want food with volume and weight, not food with volume and air.
Hope that helps.
