I second Letha - Welcome!
And, I have several questions. I'm almost 60 years old and have noticed a dramatic change in my muscle tone since menopause. My first question is whether or not muscle tone in one's thighs and upper arms can be regained at my age, and my second question is, if so, what are the best forms of exercise. Also, I've read that strength training can cause spider veins in older women. Is this true? I bought a set of free weights for legs and arms, and a book by Miriam Nelson, Strong Women Stay Young, but have not yet started her program.

I'm glad you've joined the McDougall "team". It was a great idea on Dr. McDougall's part to include you!

Thank you.

Hi Letha and Birdy!

First, thank you SO much for the lovely and warm welcome. It means a lot! This is such a classy, smart, and caring community (you've proven this once again!) and I am lucky to be included.

I look forward to addressing your concerns. Birdy, can you post your question as a separate question on the forum here so I can be sure to address it specifically? That way it will also be identifiable as a topic to others who come along and easier for you to find, too. I'll be able to get to it soon. Thanks!

Lani

welcome!

(and gosh, i wish you'd addressed Birdy's questions! when a similar concern came up - as it would inevitably - chances are really good that a faithful boardee would cut, paste and reassemble your answers)

Thank you for the continued notes of welcome. I'm impressed, it's even holidays when so many have "checked out" of good eating and exercise! You guys raise the bar.

Best of holiday blessings to all!

Lani
