I am back on the board after a LONG time away. I have been so busy, and haven't been eating right, and finally reached the point where I know that I HAVE to do something to take control of my life and health. I had a breast cancer scare this year, and my blood pressure has been up, as well as my blood sugar (not diabetes yet though). So, I am ready to do this full-force.

I started a Mary's Mini yesterday, and plan to do it for at least 2 weeks, maybe longer if I can handle it. My fasting blood sugar yesterday was 113. My menu for yesterday was:

Breakfast: baked potato with nutritional yeast, 1/2 cup of coffee (I am trying to wean myself off)

Lunch: large baked potato with salsa

Dinner: Potatoes cooked in the crock-pot with some carrots and portabello mushrooms, green beans

Snack: Another potato and veggies from dinner

My fasting blood sugar this morning was 99 (under 100 for the first time in a month).

So far, I am feeling pretty good about everything, and seem to have more energy already. I am still under a lot of stress with work and school, but just 2 more weeks and then I am on break from school, and after Dec 22 I am on break from work until January 4th. So, there will be time for rest then.

Carolyn

Hi, Welcome back and good for you! I like the immediate results too. For me it's no heartburn and the energy comes back. Your plan for rest seems important to me as well. I don't know about you but when I am tired I don't do as well with my eating. So way to go!

Today is day 3 of my Mary's Mini. Yesterday went pretty well, but a couple of slip-ups

Breakfast: 1/2 potato with nutritional yeast, 1/2 cup of coffee

Lunch: leftover potatoes, carrots and mushrooms, and peas

Dinner: large baked potato with salsa, italian blend veggies, sauteed mushrooms

Snack: 1 small piece of carrot cake (the last of it), 1 large cup of coffee

Overall, not too bad, and now the cake is gone (my daughter made it for us, and I didn't have the heart to just let it go to waste). Fasting blood sugar this morning was 109.

I am going out at lunchtime, and will pick up some fruit to go with my lunch (baked potato with salsa). So far, I don't really feel deprived, so hopefully I can keep this up until that first 10 lbs is gone!

Day 4 of Mary's Mini for me. My blood sugar this morning was 96, and I have lost 3.2 lbs. since Monday. I feel really good, and have a lot more energy already. The great thing about this is that I don't feel like I am missing out on anything - I don't have to starve myself, and I am still losing weight.

Yesterday's Menu:

B - mashed potatoes

L - baked potato with salsa, orange

D - potato soup

I didn't measure myself before starting, but I may do that this weekend. It would be nice to have my clothes looser before Christmas, so that I don't feel quite so pudgy! Lol.

Thank you both for the encouragement - that really helps me to stay motivated. :)

I am SOOO glad it is Friday! I really did not want to get out of bed this morning.

I am still on plan (day 5 of MM), and doing okay. Except that this morning I could not bring myself to eat a potato. So, I had a half cup of coffee and headed out the door. I know that I should eat breakfast, and I do every morning - except today. I am feeling a little stressed out from work, and my blood sugar was up this morning - 110. I am sure it is stress though, and the weekend will help.

My menu from yesterday:

B: Leftover potato soup (about 1 cup)

L: Baked potato, plain, with a small salad (1 T. Italian dressing)

D: Mashed potatoes, italian blend veggies, 1/2 cup butter beans

The weekend will be my big test, but hopefully I can stay on plan without too many issues.

Hey Carolyn,
Thanks for stopping by to encourage me. It looks like your doing great. I tried MM a year or so ago and felt it was a little too restrictive for me. I had to make so much food for the kids too. I did potatoes also. I may try it again sometime just haven't been able to psych myself up to it yet.
Have you tried the frozen hashbrowns? I loved those in the morning. I also use them in quick potato soup recipes when I don't have time for all that chopping.
Love your dog picture. I have a dog that follows me around all morning to make sure we get our walk in. They sure are easy to love.

Have a great weekend.
Stella

Stella,

I have had the frozen hashbrowns before, and I do like them a lot. I need to just stop at the store and pick some up so that they will be handy. Today I must admit that I don't want to go home and have potatoes for dinner. But, I will. I am doing good so far, and I want to keep going. My goal is at least 10 lbs by Christmas, and I would like to be down 25-30 by my birthday in February. I will be 40, and that seems like an important milestone for me. I want to be well on my way to health and ideal weight by the time I get to that point. :)

Thanks for posting - having the encouragement and feedback from others really helps me stay motivated. BTW - the dog is my baby, Max. He is almost 8, and is spoiled rotten, but I don't know what I would do without him. He sleeps under the covers next to me all night, and is definitely a lap dog. Lol.

Let us know how the Wii fit goes (from sksamboots journal), I'd be interested to learn more about it. Hope you're enjoying McDougalling

My baby is Daisy. She's too big to be a lap dog. She's a labradoodle, but unfortunately the kind that sheds. I do have a baby named Max though. He's my 13 year old boy. Everyone at school calls him Maxy boy cause they think it's a dog's name. I guess I always wanted a dog while I was having babies. :D
We're pretty close in age. I'm 43. Your goals sound very doable. I'm trying not to set any because for some reason I'm not losing as fast now. I'm staying off the scale and just keeping on as Boots would say.
Have a great weekend Carolyn!

Stella

Today is day 7 on the Mary's Mini. I have been able to stay on-plan for the majority of the weekend, although we went to my hubby's work Christmas party Saturday night, and I had a few bites of the appetizers- fried mushrooms, cauliflower and onion rings. That has been the worst of it though, and I didn't really have very much - just one or two of each. They had a really nice veggie plate with asian style veggies and a baked potato, so I felt like I was indulging even though that was on-plan.

I am going to weigh in the morning since it will be 1 full week, so hopefully the results will be good!

I am really frustrated with myself this morning, because I gained back a pound over the weekend. Overall for the week though, I am down 2.3 lbs. so...I guess it was a successful week regardless.

I am pretty much on-plan, although I had oatmeal and a banana for breakfast, which I don't think is MM compliant, but I had to have a break from the potatoes, and I figured oatmeal was better than skipping breakfast. I am going to lunch with a friend today, so that will probably mean a baked potato and a salad for lunch. I made a big pot of veggie soup last night, so that will be dinner for me tonight, and probably lunch the rest of the week. It snowed here last night, so that soup is going to sound really good when I get home!
