Does anyone here eat Australian Vegemite?

I have heard of this product for years. It's a spread made from nutritional yeast. It is suppose to be very nutritious. I have always wanted to try it and found out that Amazon.com sells it.
Can anyone tell me what it tastes like? _________________ Please visit my blog:

Hmmmmm, have you ever nibbled on the edge of a boullion cube? It sort of tastes like that. Very, very salty with a dark, meaty undertone. If you are looking for nutritional value, I'd go with nutritional yeast powder instead, which can be added to so many things. I do like Vegemite or Marmite with peanut butter (mostly peanut butter with just a slight smear of the other spread). It's an acquired taste, though. _________________ [url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/weight-loss/wIGlyN8/]

I grew up in Australia, so of course I love Vegemite! It's a bit of an acquired taste, but we have it on bread or in sandwiches with walnuts, add it to soups, stews and gravies etc. My daughter likes it on raisin toast, but that's not for me! It is a savoury taste, not sweet, so use SMALL amounts.

I love marmite. I used to really enjoy it with cream cheese on a bagel. A little goes a longggggg way. Very salty.

Vegemite isn't made from nutritional yeast. It's a yeast extract and completely different from nutritional yeast. Vegemite is a strong, dark, salty paste that is best used sparingly. Here in Canada, we have Marmite. I use it as a seasoning in beefy-type soups, stews, and gravies. _________________ To become vegetarian is to step into the stream which leads to nirvana. ~ Buddha

England makes this great snack food out of Marmite and I love it. I was going to buy a jar for 'beefing' up soups as the taste seems like it would go nicely there. I like the taste a lot. I wouldn't buy it though until I tried it. Just with these snacks many folks I let try them didn't like it. _________________ Faith

I love vegemite! I like it on wraps--spread it very thinly on the tortilla (or sometimes on a lettuce leaf) and stuff it with cucumber slices, alfalfa sprouts, rice, and black beans. Mmmmm....

I hate vegemite. Several months before a planned trip to visit us our Aussie friend asked us to buy a couple jars for him before they disappeared here in the US. Something was going on with importing it and he couldn't bring it into the country. So I bought him some... he rescheduled his trip... so we tried one jar and then threw out that one and a second one. Yuk!
Yes definitely an acquired taste.
I think I can get my b vitamins in other places.

Oh the feud between Vegemite and Marmite supporters! I've always been able to get Marmite in Canada, but really prefer Vegemite myself. Sometimes I can get it at Denningers, and always stock up when I can, because it's the small jar and doesn't last long.

It sounds like thick boulion spread. I think I might try it for a loc cal spread. Thanks for all the different input.
BTW--I just read that Kraft foods who makes Vegemite in OZ are having a contest for a new name for the product. _________________ Please visit my blog:

Isn't marmite just basically a seasoned or flavored vegemite? I lived in Africa for awhile and they love marmite there, but I thought that was the main difference.

They are very similar, but the taste is a bit different. Personal preference!

The ingredient list on my jar of Marmite reads: yeast extract, salt, dehydrated carrots and onions, spice extracts. _________________ To become vegetarian is to step into the stream which leads to nirvana. ~ Buddha
