P90X

Any P90X'ers here? I started doing P90X about this time last year. I have been off and on throughout the year. Mostly due to stress. When I am stressed, I don't like to work out. However, I noticed when I do work out when I am stressed, I feel less stressed. I am getting back into it now. It is an excellent program, but very intense. Most of the videos are close to an hour long. I like to start with half a workout for a week, then work my way up to the whole thing. I found if I do a full video after not working out in a while, I am very very sore for several days.
Does anyone have any other good intense workout programs they would recommend? _________________ Et Si Omnes Ego Non

CrossFit is a great workout and will give you results like P90X. See the Cross Fit post on this forum. I love CrossFit and the rapid gains in fitness. The workouts are not as long as P90X and are much easier to fit into your day. Good luck!

I love the P90X because it is body weight focused. And it really shows the failure of weight lifting. I can do 40 or 50 regular pushups which are just like bench pressing. Of course I though that was pretty good until I started P90X. I can only do about 4 or 5 "diamond" pushups, or 7 or 8 military, and I the plank pushups I can only do on my knees. Lifting weights can really cause too much focus on one body part.
The plyometrics is my favorite video. I have never been able to get through it without pausing. It is a very intense and wicked workout. But after a couple weeks of plyo, I feel great! _________________ Et Si Omnes Ego Non

Coeycoey, I've looked at the P90X program before. As I recall, there seemed to be several variants on the program. Are you doing one of the variants, or are you doing the main program? Or am I totally off-base here? _________________ http://www.wonderful-music.com

I am doing the original P90X. There are other add ons such as P90X+, but I find the original one challenging enough:) _________________ Et Si Omnes Ego Non

Coeycoey, is P90X the sort of program one does in a gym or in one's home? What equipment does it require?
I read somewhere that the program has a readiness test. What does the test involve? _________________ http://www.wonderful-music.com

Hi David,
Here is the P90X readiness test.

You can do everything with a pull-up bar and weights. If you don't have those, they also always have someone doing all exercises with bands, so you could get by with only bands.
It is very intense. Most videos I can't get through without many breaks. If you start it, do only maybe 1/4th of the workout to begin. Then up it each week. I did the first video all the way through when I first started and I could move for 3 days. LOL _________________ Et Si Omnes Ego Non

I love the Beach Body workouts and have been doing the new one with Chalene Johnson for the last five months. It is not as intense as P90X but I'm "old" so I figured it was a good series for me.
Now that I know I can do P90X with bands, I might have to give it a try.
In the "Chalean" series there are 8 DVD's geared for three levels so one can build up strength. She shows how to use weights or bands and modifications for each move. Three of the DVD's are using weights, three are circuit traiing/abs and there are two other: one on nutrition (yeah...get in that protein!) and one motivational, which I do like.
One of the people doing the workouts in the DVD is 60 so I don't feel like I'm totally nuts doing it.
And then, to top that off, there's a new one called Insanity that's mostly cardio with Shawn T. Yowza!
My son in the Air Force does Cross Fit and loves it too.

I just saw the Insanity videos today. Looks interesting. When I can get through all the P90X videos without bonking, I will try Insanity.
The Ploymetrics video is the killer for me. No weights, just jumping. I paused it three times today. My legs still numb. _________________ Et Si Omnes Ego Non

Shucks, if we were neighbors we could trade for a month or two!
Oh, well.
