Oh great McDougall greenthumbs, riddle me this:

So, to celebrate my recent departure from obesity, I bought my first pair of new Levis 501 shrink-to-fits, and I intend to shrink them this weekend. I'm told that I should expect a lot of blue water from the process, and I'm not sure if this is ok for watering plants. Does anybody know if the noxious chemicals that will be liberated from this process will be OK to water the garden with. I'm sure they won't be as noxious (or obnoxious, for that matter) as the chemicals found in them after I've worn them a few times, but I still don't want to turn the back yard into a superfund site.

Any shared knowledge will be cheerfully accepted and appreciated.

Thank you.

Mark

Jeans used to be dyed with indigo, which is a plant extract, but really who knows nowadays what's in the dyes.

Just to be cautious, if it were my waste-water I'd pour it on non-edible plants like shrubs or flower beds. I doubt if it would be actually toxic enough to hurt them.

I am fortunate to have a gravel driveway so when I have anything I don't want to put into my septic tank I slosh it onto the driveway and let it evaporate.

Hi AnnaS,

Thank you for your response. We have some parts of the lawn that will do. I'll keep it out of the raised beds for now.

Thanks again,

Mark

Way to go on the new jeans!

When I could get back into my jeans I felt like I made so much progress.

Thanks, Faith,

I was jazzed about reaching the obese mark. It's about half way to Normal weight, although I know that Normal may be high around here. Still, it feels great, and it was nice to find a way to celebrate that didn't involve food.

Thanks again,

Mark

Mosts new clothes have some kind of "sizing" on/in them that makes me itch/sneeze. I don't understand those who can wear something new without washing first, because I sure can't. I even had trouble when I worked in a fabric store a lifetime ago for the same reason. Thus I would not put that wash water in my edibles.

Congrats on the new pants!

Thanks! Hope you are having fun out on the Atlantic coast. If you haven't figured it out yet, it's time to start heading south. You are going to be unpleasantly surprised if you stay in the northeast for the next 6 months. That RV didn't come with a fireplace, did it?

Where does Santa come in to an RV, anyway?

Thanks again.

Mark

Is Myrtle Beach, SC far enough south for you? Today's temperature was about 65, tomorrow about the same, Sunday mid-70's. We walked the beach at sunset, watched the pelicans fish for their evening meal. Yes, it's pleasant. :) We'd both rather wear jeans and a flannel shirt than be all sweaty and need to hide our fair complexions from the sun. Our winter destination is Florida, the plan is to be in the Daytona Beach area with its wonderfully walkable beach, for Thanksgiving. No, the RV doesn't have a fireplace, but there is a furnace, which we've used on occasion in the morning to take the chill off. As for Santa, well honey, all good boys and girls are asleep when he arrives, so how on earth would I know how he's gonna get in?

i have been putting the rest of the stuff from the Vitamix in the garden....after I clean it there is still stuff I don't want going down the sink...that won't hurt the plants will it? Mostly fruits, veggies and remains of flaxseeds and water.....
