watched processed people...I need to watch it 100 billion more times..

Feeling good today. Had the greatest salad for dinner: beans, corn, peas, oil free dressing, salsa, lettuce, chard ...so good . I saved some to have for lunch on Friday..

I'm feeling good

Hello, sksamboots, and welcome to the forum.

You are certainly correct in that the average of the McDougallers in this forum is 40s and up, although there are a few exceptions.

I'm 40 exactly, and to this day I still love doing many of the things which were popular 20 years ago. I spent many hours per week in arcades (Vegas had dozens of excellent ones back then -- now, forget about it except for one really nice pinball museum I want to visit soon). I certainly can't do any of the physically active things that people in their 20s typically enjoy, but that will come in time.

So, exactly how would you describe your interests? Types of music, leisure activities and so forth? I may actually have enough of an overlap with you that we could end up talking about lots of things. No guarantees, but if it works out then at least you'll know you have one friend here who gets what you're about.

Ege: Thanks for the welcome, I'm not saying I can't relate to older folks and older folks can't relate to me. I'm just saying that I didn't feel very supported last time and maybe it was because of my age? But I'm not really sure..Maybe folks didn't feel like they could relate to me. But I feel like we can all relate, because we are here for health!

Me: Kayaking is my new found love, I like to be on the computer and surf the net, and I like to bowl and ice-skate. And I wish those things were free so I could do them more. That's all for now!

I'm doing great people. Listen to me again- I'm doing great :D I'm feeling energized and wonderful and wonderful and can I just say it one more time? I watched Processed People for the 1st time last night- I need to watch it a 100 billion more times and I can recommend it to anyone, it's great

I have no complaints, I have no cravings--This is easy. I just need to focus on this feeling. This feeling of this being easy. It was hard at one part yesterday, for one moment. I was eating lunch with 10 of my co-workers and the majority of them ordered a pizza and I sat there and ate my baked sweet potato. I thought it was hard for a second. But then I remembered all the wonderful health benefits I'm getting from the sweet potato and how I don't feel all greasy and I feel wonderful. This is amazing. Holding on to this feeling of amazing :-D

I feel good, I'm on plan and staying that way. I'm feeling good. I'm trying to focus on the way I'm feeling. I like the way I'm feeling. No cravings, not focusing on food, and my mind feels clear. This is all a good thing to hold on to tightly and to remember

YES!! Say it again and again. That's wonderful that you are doing so well, and holding on to the feeling.

<<No cravings, not focusing on food>>
Yes, that's what I eventually want: not just to fight the cravings, but to live my life less food-obsessed.

My sister just got two kayaks last month. She'll take me on out on my next day off. Sounds fun!

Hi, I like that you are talking about how good you feel. As you said it will help you to hold on to it, to remember. The good stuff is what keeps me trying as much as fear about the negative consequences of eating SAD. Good work! :)

What type of kayaking do you do and where do you go?
My wife and I are in California - Sacramento - and to both sea kayaking and white water.
If you are ever in Sacramento, let us know. Maybe we could get out in the boats.

Thanks for stopping by my journal Sactobob--I'm a new kayaker so I'm currently doing on-top kayaking and I love it..I really wanted to buy a kayak but they are so expensive. I also thought about taking a class so I can do a sit-in kayak but again, so expensive! I've kayaked twice in my life and never took a class, I can go pretty fast and I'm so in love with it. I just like the fact that I can just go to a body of water and go kayak. Love it. It's probably the only exercise I love besides swimming and I can't do it every day because it is expensive...eh...I live in the East bay by the way :) O and I went in the kayaking in Oakland, by Jack London Square in the Bay, by all the boats!

I had a dream last night. I was running. No really. I was..I used to really enjoy running when I was in junior high but I didn't keep it up because I had no one to support me and once I lost some weight I didn't see the need for it. I've tried to run again but I just have too much weight on my joints. So I have to lose some before I can run...Eh but ya junior high was a long time ago...Anyways...Besides the point. In my dream I was trying to run. And it took my legs a while to figure everything out--I was really wobbly. Then I could see someone in my side vision, and they were fixing to pass me. So I started changing how I ran, and I kept up with the person. But then I started to get a little wobbly again and they passed me.

So the analogy to my dream and my life is. I'm still trying to get all the kinks worked out but eventually..I'll be able to pass and exceed all my goals. I'm not ready yet. I'm taking baby steps and I'm stable but wobbly. Eh..Love it!!!

Week 1 is over with, I lost 3 pounds and I couldn't be happier. I feel good. I feel myself. I feel alert. I feel clean. I feel healthy. I feel wonderful. I feel happy. My body is thanking me today for this past week-- I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Thanks for stopping by to wish me well in my journal. It looks like you are energized and enthusiastic from all this good eating. Congratulations on the changes you are making in your health.

Congratulations on losing that first pound, too. One week into the program and going strong!

Rock on, sksamboots! It sounds like you're doing great!

I know what you mean about feeling weird when coworkers are all eating something you don't eat. People don't even ask me to order food with them anymore, although I do try to join them with my own food and be social sometimes. The pizza has actually started to smell disgusting to me -- not at all like something I want to eat. I wish that would happen with doughnuts and chocolate, but so far it hasn't.

I've only been kayaking once, but I thought it was lots of fun. It was the kind of kayak you sit in, which turned out to be really easy to use -- someone just had to explain the steering to me.

Let me know with a pm if you ever want to come up for a day of kayaking in the Sacto area. I have an extra boat - haven't sold it yet - that was suitable for me when I weighed 250 pounds - so it should be big enough. I have had to get a smaller boat. Lots of great places to explore.

You should wait on buying one also, since you will lose a lot of weight quickly with the McDougall Plan. Your weight makes a lot of difference in what is a suitable boat. Also, at first your skills can really develop fast, and you will want a different boat after a year of paddling than you will want now.

LOL, the boat I have, I demoed as a beginner and thought "who in their right mind would buy such a tippy boat." Now, I guess (the lighter weight) me. I enjoy kayaking so much that I wanted my "after" picture in my Star McDougaller story (link below) to show me in my kayak. Dr. McDougall has enabled me to continue with this sport I love.

In the Bay, you might try a trip around Sausalito at Sea Trek in Sausalito. Kayaks are great exercise for people if they have weight or joint problems, as you have found. It is also a blast and fun to get better. My wife and I would be happy to take you out for a day and have (now- still haven't sold my big boat) everything you need.

I am warning you. He will get you out in open water with big swells, fast current, high winds, and more. Then, as he and his wife go paddling by they will watch you try to stay upright and enjoy a good laugh!!!
Obviously, I am just kidding. We spent the weekend with Bob and his trophy wife paddling around Lake Lodi and the Mokolumne river and had a super time. He and gabagirl really know their stuff and are excellent teachers. I would encourage you to take the offer up and have a great time.
