While I don't have those symptoms anymore, I've heard of others saying they go away after McD'g for awhile. My nephew's wife said she didn't even have PMS the month she tried eating this way (which she didn't continue, unfortunately).

If you just started, give it a few weeks and let us know how things go next month.

Check out McD's article: http://www.drmcdougall.com/med_hormone.html[/url]

I find that when I'm faithful to the program, PMS symptoms practically disappear or are definitely reduced. I'm now peri-menopausal and in addition to eating McD, I find that acupuncture provides significant relief.

I have no PMS problems with McDougalling. It's when I stop McDougalling that it gets bad again.

Im still kind of moody over six months into the diet but I can tell things are changing. I use to have boob pain frequently throughout the month from hormones and sensitivity to them. Now when I eat animal products I get it back. I cheated on thanksgiving and highly regretted it. I am hoping the moodiness will go away the longer I am on this lifestyle.

I seem to never have PMS problems unless i'm on birth control. Then they seem to show up. Go figure! And yet doctors always try to tell me that BC is a cure for everything.

Hope you all don't mind me bumping up this very old thread..am wondering if any of you ladies have had an extreme change in PMS/periods since starting on this WOE. I've been "mostly vegan" for 2.5 months now, officially McDougall-ing for just a few days, and for the first time in my life I can remember, my TOM arrived w/o the usual emotional madness, cramps, etc. It literally surprised me! I've always suffered from severe PMS symptoms and terrible cramps, etc. so this is quite a shock to me.

Can it possibly be the diet??

Oh, yes. I have always been very irregular, and I pretty much relied on my over-active emotions and several days of "pre-cramps" to let me know that my "friend" was on it's way. Now, there are very few (if any) warning signs. And the actual cramps have reduced considerably...not gone, but VERY much lessened.

I have been ovo-lacto vegetarian for 20 plus years, with several long stretches of McDougalling during that time, but I had a hard time shaking the cheese out of my life. I finally kicked that addiction almost 2 years ago, lost 60 pounds since then (10 more to go), and have had the positive results mentioned above.

I feel way better on this WOE! Worlds better! I don't have to pop advil anymore. I am still a bit over emotional, but I am no longer angry, which was a big issue. I no longer have painful ovulation, and I am not retaining as much water.

Not sure if anyone is still checking this, but I have been on the diet (not nearly perfectly) and am just completing my first cycle since starting. I am not nearly as angry, still a little grumpy. The anxiety and depression have lessened.

Thank you for kicking this back up! I've been serious McD for about a month. Last month my peri-menopausal symptoms/mood was bad enough I told my boyfriend he might have to go to jail for murder.

Today, a month later and time for a repeat. I feel fine. totally fine.

Grateful for having it pointed out!

Thanks for the reply! I too am peri- :(

I am still having some anxiety and anger, but not as bad. I read somewhere that it takes at least two full months. I sure hope it improves! My former nurse practi. put me on natural progesterone tablets for PMS and encouraged me to double my doses whenever I felt tense. I ended up having what I can only describe as some kind of seizure. I think this is a serious problem for many women.
