Hi everyone. This is a great website/forum. Thanks for being here.
I was diagnosed with Crohns while in the hospital for the second time in a month's time last year.
I said, "fine". I went home and researched and found many that advocated the SCD diet---which is pretty much the opposite of this diet plan.
Everyone claims they are healing with both plans. SCD has helped me get back into life--I am so grateful. However, my heart is vegan. When I have tried (twice) to live on a vegan diet I feel weak, airy headed, shaky and unstable. It's even scary to drive.
I talked with someone to day that said this may be due to the fact that I am not eating any grains or flours at all----I can't. SCD says no potatoes. So that leaves me eating and drinking juices. Honestly sometimes I feel like I will float off the planet---not a fun feeling.
Has anyone had a similar experience with eating vegan? Has anyone transitioned from SCD to this diet? I am kinda scared to go off the SCD diet because I don't want to get sick and not be able to work.
Thank you for your help!

I have Crohn's and have used a vegan diet to stay out of the hospital and off meds.
SCD vs. a McDougall diet? Well, Crohn's aside, you really need to focus on long term health. The foods on the SCD diet promote long-term disease and increase inflammation. The McDougall diet does the opposite. This information is well documented.
There was a recent death in the Crohn's support community from an SCD/Paleo promoter. He died of a heart attack at age 53, which is tragic, but expected on a high-fat, meat-based diet.
If you are looking for long-term health and healing, drop SCD.
Good luck!
