I want to share the McD WOE with a friend. She is not really into this at this time but she has conditions that I believe would respond well to better nutrition. She is in her early 20's, takes Paxil for depression, Omeprazole for acid reflux and has a condition I have never heard of. . .skin writing.

Skin Writing is treated with antihistamines. I thought that if a condition that is visible and obvious could be helped, that she might be more inclined to consider diet changes that would help her other conditions.

Has anyone seen improvement in the condition called skin writing with dietary changes?

Are you referring to Dermatographic urticaria? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dermatographic_urticaria

I had it my whole life until I started the McDougall diet. I'm not sure when it went away but one day DH noticed that I wasn't beet red after my shower - and I wasn't getting welts from things touching my skin. It must have been after a couple of months of this WOE.

I will say it came in handy as kid taking long trips in the car - my brother and I would play word games on my arms and legs. But as a teenager and adult it was a serious source of embarrassment as anything that touched my skin left a wheal that lasted for hours and couldn't be covered up with makeup.

I've been on this diet for 4 years now and it hasn't returned.

Thank you. I'm glad you found relief.
Did you ever hear any reason that the WOE may have helped?

I don't know why this WOE worked and I wasn't expecting it to - but lots of other health issues that I had also went into remission. I knew I would lose weight and get off my blood pressure and cholesterol medication - but I was skeptical about things like allergies, asthma and arthritis - and that was just the beginning of my health issues that went into remission after suffering from them since childhood. I'm a believer now.

BTW, I had Dermatographic urticaria while I was on all kinds of allergy medication.
