After 8 months with no period and a blood test my doctor says that i may be in early menopause. I am only 19!!! I am still waiting to see a specialist regarding this situation which may take months. In the meantime what can i be doing? I am not thinking of having children in the immediate future but am concerned that i may now be infertile. can anyone provide any insight here please, I am very worried!

It's good that you're seeing a specialist. Meanwhile support the health you have right now with good sleep habits, exercise, stress management and eating properly. If you have had a tendency to overexercise or restrict your food or you're sedentary and obese, try to manage those things while you're waiting to see the specialist.

The anecdote: I knew someone who in her 20s was wanting to get pregnant--she hadn't had a period for a number of years. She couldn't keep herself from overexercising and possibly restricting calories. It seemed her hormones were completely out of whack. She tried a variety of things including Traditional Chinese Medicine. Then, resigned that she may never get pregnant, she and her husband adopted a child. In the meantime, (and the baby was possibly a distraction away from her physical symptoms) as she was doing what was recommended (and probably eating more/exercising less), she became pregnant.

This was someone who nearly gave up on getting her period back. Hang in there--I wish you well! (Breathe in, breathe out:-)

Thank you for your kind words of encouragment scooterpie!
As for my physical health, I beleive I am in decent shape. At 5'3'' I am about 120 pounds. I estimate i probally eat about 1400 calories a day which includes tons of whole grains, steamed or raw veggies, baked white and sweet potatoes, 2-3 servings of fruit, beans, small amounts of nuts or peanut butter, i have recently completely given up all added oils (olive oil, etc.)
I exercise about 4 times per week, nothing overly strenuous. Usually walking/hiking. I do a circuit workout with weight/resistance and cardio a couple times a week the past couple months.
The last time a had bloodwork my b 12 was low and i just started to supplement that. Also my cholesterol was elevated(although im not sure of the numbers)
Any advice on diet, supplements, exercise? how many calories per day is healthy, are fats in olives, avacados, nuts okay?
