I have lost 30 pounds (with 55 to go) and am far fitter than I have been for years since I became a McDougaller.

The one moan I have is that my BP won't reduce and therefore I can't reduce any of the 4 different BP medications especially one that is making life a misery.
Norvasc which was the last one added 2 years ago and appears to be the "straw that broke the camels back"by messing up much of my sex life. Before that I was ok.

I measure my blood pressure daily and it sits just at the 140/85. When I try to cut back even a quarter of the Norvasc dosage after 2 days my BP takes a leap to 150.
MY doctor agrees I should keep trying to reduce my meds but only if the BP doesn't increase.

I guess I will have to lose the next 50 pounds before I get any drop in BP but it does get discouraging.
Also losing weight while on maximum doses of a betablocker, candesarten, an alphablocker and a calcium channel blocker is a battle in itself. All those tablets make the body slow down.

I have numerous health issues but beating the Norvasc is my priority at the moment.
I don't know what to do..
Risk cutting the Norvasc in half and hope for the best or wait until I see some definite reduction in the future whem more weight goes.
My weight is 252 pounds at the moment.

Are you near your ideal weight? Some people have to get near that number to see their BP fall into good numbers.

Take heart. With total committment my husband is now 13 pounds from his goal weight and is off all meds -- 2 BP pills, gout pills, triglyceride pills, and well out of danger of his former status of borderline diabetic. Hang in there and watch it happen. It will. I promise.

Do you drink coffee or tea? Or Cokes/soft drinks?

Trust me on this: One day you'll wake up and realize that it no longer feels like "being strict." It just feels GOOD. :)

Stopped caffeine early February.

I am on permanent steroid replacement as I have had my adrenal glands removed 8 years ago because of tumors and I know one of the steroids fludrocortisone keeps salt from being expelled too fast therefore keeping BP regulated. I wonder if the very small dose I have is still just too high for me and needs trimming.

I must ask my doctor next time I see him....not that he knows much about some of these rarer conditions.
