I'm woken up several times in the night, soaked and hot. I've been taking black cohosh supplements to no avail. Does anyone have any advice?

are you exercising... I know it seems like a silly question but much of my menopausal symptoms were reduced by daily exercise.

And then of course removing animal products completly from my diet.

Since you have already removed animal products ... that leaves exercise.

you don't have to do heavy exercise either but walking for about 3 miles at a brisk pace no matter morning or night helps...
also I spent a few years sleeping in my lightest pajamas winter or summer.

Edited to add.

I tried a lot of the different hot flash products and none of them helped me at all. But everyone is different. For me the exercise really helped and then when I added this diet in I got exponentially better.

I recommend bio-identical hormones. I believe even Dr. M recommends. I only take the minimum to relieve symptoms. I couldn't manage without them.

A friend of mine (who eats plant-based) swears by horseback riding (no kidding!I guess file that one under "exercise") and increasing her intake of raw greens, like romaine, kale spinach to manage her hot flashes.

Lol, horseback riding...even if it looks so easy....is actually a lot of exercise...you can be sweating after 5 to 10 min.

I just finished menopause (hurrah) except for the very rare nightflash and mine was very easy. But...I have a bit of tofu 2-3 times a week and I don't know, but I think it might have something to do with me having such an easy time.
Maybe something you can try!

I highly recommend Susan Weed's menopause book. She has a whole section on hot flashes, with various herbal remedies you can try. Soy milk helps, too.

In Dr. McDougall's book for women he recommends natural progesterone cream, usually made with a variety of sweet potato and such. I bought the cream in the local HFS but I know Amazon and other on-line stores also sell it, and in recent years I even saw it in some local chain drug stores.

You can read more about this, and bio-identical hormones, on Dr. Lee's web site:

You might try reducing spices such as cumin, cayenne, chili powders, etc. I find that when I eat these my hot flashes increase and intensify.

Good Luck! Hot flashes are the worst!
