I would like to tell you about my McDougall experiment.
First of all I will tell you that I was diagnosed with a rare heart condition.
The name Is Left Arterial Myxoma which is a tumor in the heart.
I was operated on about 8 hours after diagnosis so I had no time to worry.
The operation I am glad to say was successful. however one of the side affects seemed to be a more rapid heart beat.
3 years have gone by since then
Last month I went into the hospital for tests which included MRI,holter monitoring, numerous blood tests, echo cardiogram, chest xrays
My blood pressure on entering 156/90 heart rate 113
the results of the cholesterol test was alarming especially for the cardiac doctors I had at least 5 come to my room to tell me they have never seen anything like it.So i am on 40mgs of lipitor at the moment to bring it down
Now I have been strictly McDougalling for 1 month today my blood pressure is 110/70 and my resting heart rate is 86 which is the first time in years it is that low.My doctor has agreed to this diet and is going to monitor me.I go in march for another cholesterol test and another heart test.As I have had all the tests I feel I am in a good position to see how well I will do.I have followed the diet and havent cheated I feel much better and am pleased with my blood pressure results.I will post again after I get my new results.I am grateful my doctor is so willing to help me.
Hopefully when my cholesterol gets down to a reasonable level I can stop the statins and controll it with diet and exersise.

Atrapos, whoa, that must have been so hard to go through surgery like that with little warning or preparation. I myself was born with congenital heart disease repaired as a child, and then had a valve replacement almost 2 years ago. I had months of waiting, not hours. I am not sure which would be worse.

Anyway, you have a couple of wonderful things happening for you and I am so pleased your BP responded so quickly to this lifestyle. :D I bet you will come off your statins yet. How wonderful to have an enlightened cardiologist who will be an asset rather than a hindrance. Welcome to the board and keep us in the loop. We all love to celebrate success. :D

Sounds like the McDougall Program is helping fast. Just keep in touch with your Doc so he can adjust the medicines as needed. By the way also kudos to the Doctor for being open to the lifestyle change.
