Over the years, I've been diagnosed with h pylori (took several courses of ABX treatments with NO result), IBS, GERD, esophagitis, and also have suffered bulimia for many years (not regularly, although I have "episodes" that set me off)...The GI MD advised me to take a PPI daily...I don't like the idea of this so he advised me to do so at least every other day....

My question is this..... I've been on almost every diet on the planet through the years.... I seemed not to have as many GI problems on low carb....I was on Fuhrman and didn't have many problems with the symptoms either....But I decided I like starches too much and switched over to McDougall plan.....Yesterday, I had brown rice pasta with no problem...that I remember, anyway.....today I had rolled oats with no problems...BUT this afternoon I had whole wheat pasta and within 2-3 hours, I'm suffering with the burning from my stomach to my chest!!! What do you think??? Are there certain starches/foods you can suggest to try or try to avoid...besides the ones on the list I have already....typical GERD avoidance food.... onions/tomatoes etc. etc... I know for tonight, anyway, I'll take my PPI and hopefully get relief by tomorrow.... Thanks....

I would recommend following Dr. McDougall's elimination diet http://www.drmcdougall.com/med_allergic.html
It sounds like you have some food sensitivities, perhaps gluten is one since the wheat pasta set you off.
You may also benefit from a really good probitic such as Bio-k.
Stick to whole foods as much as possible, potatoes, sweet potatoes, brown rice, beans, lentils etc...limit the pastas, breads and such to give your body a break and let it heal. It will take time for your body to heal, it won't happen overnight. :)

I thank you for the info....I'm also wondering though if Dr. McDougall has any other ideas about the h pylori since the ABX treatments failed and if that is the cause of the GI symptoms or if the possible food allergies are the culprit! My doc just said to continue to take the PPI's with no answers...
