Cheeseless pizzas never seem to do the trick for me. At home - they are great - but few pizza places seem to get it when you say "hold the cheese." However lately I've been wondering about ordering a calzone with all the veggie fixings - but no cheese. I'm not sure this would translate well either.

Wonder if anyone has had any luck with a cheeseless calzone - do some stuffings work better than others?

It would be best to do this at home - but we are hitting our busiest time of the year when we eat out alot. I stick as close to McDougall as possible - but usually allow myself some leeway as I'm also very active at this time.

Thanks.
Vicki

Try ordering from a more "Mom and Pop" type of pizza place rather than a chain like Pizza Hut. You're much more likely to get a cook who knows that when you hold the cheese, you add lots of extra veggies and sauce.

I've ordered a cheeseless pizza from two places and one was just terrible. Pretty much like bread with tomato sauce and every 8th bite you got a smidgen of vegetable. The other place, regularly gives me (on whole wheat crust even!) so many veggies that you wouldn't be able to see the cheese even if it were there!

Though I've never had a cheeseless calzone, I'm sure that the same thing would apply. Totally depends on the place in my opinion.

I have never had any trouble ordering cheeseless pizza....If I go to a take and bake place, I tell them to give me the cheese on the side (this is a startling eye opening as to the amount they put on...!!!!)

If you tell the folks at the restaurant you have an allergy to dairy, they are pretty good about it. Or you can tell them you have a heart condition and you can't have it...which is not a lie! We all have a heart condition and cheese won't improve it ;-)

I get a wonderful cheeseless calzone at a local Mom and Pop pizza place. It is just great! Lots of veggies and I always have them put pineapple in it instead of the cheese. The first time I ordered it I got questions and funny looks so I just said I am allergic to dairy and that solved the problem. It is one of my most favorite things to eat out, I am sure there is a bit of fat in it but to have a nice dinner out without the dairy makes me a happy gal!
