Ok, I bought a non stick pan today...

Cut up potoates and throw in a few onions and mushooms...
this is all new to me but did not use oil of course...(my books should be here soon)

Turned the heat super low...flipped them now and then but it all still stuck some...
How do you all cook your hashbrowns? They were good I might add.:)

Thanks!

Personally I always used pre-cooked potatoes for making my hash browns as I don't like any of the results I have had making them from raw. I also like mine in cubes and not shredded. I put them in a cold pan, heat to medium, cover and let cook for a number of minutes without disturbing them. I experimented with my stove and pan and for me it is ~8 min before even thinking about stirring or moving them. I then toss them about and let them sit again for 4-5 minutes. Continue until done.

There is also this thread you might want to have a gander at.

One more item of note. I never use frozen potatoes. It doesn't matter to me if I boil, bake or microwave them first either; so long as I cool them completely before using them for hash browns I have success every time. Good luck!

be sure to read the instructions that come with your nonstick pan. If you are able to cook them in 4 minutes the heat is too high.

Turn the heat super low, set a timer for 10 minutes and don't touch them until it goes off other than to lift off the heat if your low setting is just too high. Then I quarter them in the pan to make them easier to flip. never mix them around, just quarter or divide to make it easier to flip. If your pan is really new you can slide the whole thing off into a plate, hold the pan upside down over the plate and flip the uncooked side face down into the pan (don't burn yourself).

Set the timer again for 10 mins for the other side to brown.

Slow and steady wins the race.
