Hi,
I have found that you can dissolve eggshell in lemon juice and get all the calcium you need without eating a lot of vegetables:

Quote:
Eggshells present healthy, balanced calcium due to trace amounts of other minerals contained in it. Eggshell calcium is probably the best natural source of calcium, and it is easier for your body to digest and absorb. Dutch researchers have reported recently a highly positive effect of eggshell calcium (with added magnesium and vitamin D) on bone mineral density in a scientific study (double blind, placebo-controlled). Laboratory test and measures of bone density were carefully made in these studies. The eggshell supplemented group had measurable increases in bone density in their hip bones, after one year

Are there some side effects of this method?

I think it's simply calcium carbonate, the same mineral found in common calcium supplements. Why bother?

a) Why not just buy supplements instead of a bunch of eggs?

b) Why supplement at all? Don't know how familar you are with this WOE, but since you are new to the board, I will assume new to the information as well.

If you read Dr. McDougall's books and newsletter articles, watch his videos, and/or study Jeff N's forum, you will have some new things to consider, such as:
How much calcium is "enough?" Who says so? Is the recommendation different for SAD eaters and those on this WOE? What is the consequence of "not enough?" (No, not what the dairy board would like you to think.) What other dietary habits impact healthy bones, and in much more significant ways.

The thing about getting calcium from vegetables is that you get a lot of other benefits along with the calcium, like other minerals and vitamins as well as anti-oxidents which help to prevent some cancers.

No thanks. I get all the calcium I need from leafy greens, brocolli and beans.
