I found these whole wheat, no oil pita breads at my supermarket. They have been lovely to make a nice veggie and hummus sandwich for lunch, but today, we made pizza!!

1 ww pita
Marinara sauce
Red peppers
Spinach
Garlic powder, red pepper flakes and oregeno
10 minutes on 350 and it was scrumptious!

Pita pizzas are great. The crust gets so crunchy, and really stands up to piling it high with veggies.

What's the brand of pita? I have been making my own dough, but that is a bit time consuming when I am in a rush to get dinner made for my wife and son.

It was perfectly crispy, just the way I like it.

Steve, it's Toufuyan brand. They are a nice size as well.

Hi stoumi

I make a huge batch of dough and do little balls and freeze them on a tray then put them in bags. I just put a few in the fridge to defrost overnight and they keep a couple of days like this (well I have never left them longer than this as they get eaten!). Just roll and bake as required. Makes great mini pizzas.

Thanks! I have been buying the Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free Whole Wheat Pizza crust, but have made my own in the past. Putting them into small balls makes sense, didn't think of that. Thanks!

I've been using Toufayan Whole Wheat Pita Bread for years now, and it does make a great pizza. Now you've made me hungry for pizza....

Do you just put the toppings on the pita and bake? You don't separate the pita? My grocery store has a good W/W oil free pita that I would be willing to give this a try!

I have been seriously jonesing for pizza, but just haven't been up to experimenting with making oil free crust -- but, if anyone has a recipe for pizza crust that is good, I would love to add it to my list of things to try!

Thanks!

Sharon

I've been doing this for a while now too. My local health-food store has WW pitas without oil or added sugar. So I just slather on some homemade sauce, thinly slice some onion or add some spinach, and then sprinkle on some nutritional yeast.

I don't split apart the pita, just keep it as is.
