A friend who was married to a Moroccan guy for some years was round last week. I hadn't seen her for ages and we had loads to catch up on.

We talked about my food regime and I described a non dairy shake I make when the chocolate craving hits. She told me that they make smoothies using advocado in Morocco so I had a google around and found the following:

http://moroccanfood.about.com/od/teacof ... kshake.htm

looks like it would McDougallise nicely. Just dates to sweeten and oatmilk instead of cow's.

I'll report back when I've tried it out

Have a great weekend

Katherine

This one, somewhat similar but quite different also, is the filling for a Fuhrman pie (Bluevado it's called)
I usually omit the coconut and make a 1/4 size batch using 1 large banana. If you use frozen banana this comes out like super rich, sweet custard. Dangerously good! Add a little oat milk to make it into a smoothie...
Quote:
10 ounces frozen blueberries
10 pitted dates, chopped
4-5 bananas
1 Haas avocado (substitute 1 1/2 oz (27) cashews if no avo)
1 teaspoon unsweetened shredded coconut
cinnamon
vanilla

The full recipe includes a pie crust but I actually found that part so disappointing that I just ate the filling and smooshed up the crust and baked it as 2 or 3 cookies which were pretty good. Here is the rest of the recipe
Quote:
CRUST
10 date/coconut rolls (remove almonds)[I used just plan dates]
1 1/2 cups Familia, original swiss baby muesli, no added sugar (found in supermarkets)[I used raw, rolled oats]

For crust:
In a bowl, thoroughly blend the date/coconut rolls and muesli. Transfer mixture to pie plate, pressing down to make pie crust.

Blend filling then
Pour into the pie crust. Sprinkle with coconut.

Cover and freeze for at least 3 hours before serving.

Oops, sorry. They are something Dr Fuhrman sells through his site, basically just mashed dates rolled in dried coconut with an almond stuffed in. I just use plain old dates. If using Delget Noor dates (or date pieces) I use about 2X as much as if using Medjools. I really just eyeball the amount for estimated sweetness and however it comes out is always good.

Looks good. My favorite avocado shake was a Gillian McKeith recipe, believe it or not:

1 avocado
3 medjool dates
juice of 1 lime
2 cups water

Delicious!

You can buy those coconut date rolls at many grocery stores, especially around Christmas. http://store.casadefruta.com/dates-coco ... googlebase You can see a pic.

Not sayin' everyone should eat 'em, so don't anyone start throwin' coconuts at me! I like 'em, though (the date rolls, not being hit by flying coconuts).

Sweet guacamole smoothie! Heck, could add cilantro, tomato even.

Actually, I know avo is good w/ sweet from long ago on impulse, trying a bite with a bite of banana at same time. Great combo, if you can afford the calories. This whole thread should carry a red warning label for those trying to lose weight!

I've lost weight in the 18 months I've been on the diet and I've occasionally eaten avos during that time. I'm not interested in fast weight loss (been there bought the t-shirt) but then I'm not in the position of having heart disease.

I'm interested in a lifelong programme with no deprivation/binging.

So what about those coconut rolls?

Just looked on F's site and do not see them for sale. Actually I was thinking of "date pop-ums" but no longer see those either. If you want coconut rolls, just get Medjool dates, pit them and slice open, roll in dried coconut and stick and almond in the middle. Fairy close to the rolls anyway. Or just the dates rolled in coconut.

No worries. Maybe you are just "date deficient"?
